BOARD OF HEALTH <br /> 477-1777 - <br /> April 21 1983 <br /> Letter to the Editor <br /> The Board of Health of the Tawe of Aaahpee would like to correct a <br /> impression that could be made From, the -news articles that have been <br /> appl earing in regards to the prop se Mashpee Charters the ant e?es <br /> would seem to imply that the board is in agreement with the Charter <br /> provisions., which it is not. <br /> The Board of Health is charged by lair with. much responsibility to <br /> maintain and safeguard the public health. It has the power to <br /> condom dwellings.9 to approve or disaprove septic systema, or order <br /> .their repaire It approves or disapproves wells and their installation., <br /> it is responsible for the Health Agent, and responsible for the proper <br /> operation of the mites Landfill and Se tae Lagoons, just to name <br /> some of the =my more activities in related areas. <br /> The Board would respond to the statement of lack of acmmunication with <br /> the Selectmen's office that this is a bland statement there was a <br /> urisdictionalp roblem which could only be solved through c cations,. <br /> which must have existed, in order to resolve the problem. <br /> The Board is elected by the Townzpeople and is re, sible to them for <br /> their actions, not dependent upon a� few t appoint they; the Board of <br /> Health stands between the Health Agent any pout al pr sw=e placed <br /> upon that agent* <br /> The vast majority of Towns within the Comonvealth indeed in the <br /> country have turned fir= an appointed ward to an elected anee To g <br /> in the direction the Chanter would indicate would be counter to the <br /> trend of the rest of the Towns. <br /> The Board of Health stands vehemently opposed to an appointed board rather <br /> than an elected oneo It believes that the people of the Tbvn shmij not <br /> be denied the right to choose members whom they believe are interested in <br /> the welfaret welfarebetterment dgrowth of the whose Town. <br /> Board of Health ,= _ <br /> .10 . <br /> .mo <br /> Charles .
