ate} <br /> tc <br /> 06 <br /> Department of' Folie <br /> { <br /> S V <br /> 477-1213 <br /> Curtis W.Frye <br /> Chief of Police May 9, 1988 <br /> Board of Health <br /> Town of MashpeeRe: Blue Light Display <br /> Bear Board Members: <br /> This letter is submitted for your information in regard to <br /> the use of the blue light on a torn or privately owned vehicle <br /> other than police vehicles. <br /> Section 7 of Chapter 90 of the Massachusetts Generl Laws <br /> and the rules and regulations of the registrar of motor vehicles, <br /> cleanly state that only police department vehicles of the common- <br /> wealth and railroad police department vehicle within the common- <br /> wealth shall display blue lights forward. All other vehicles, ex- <br /> cept vehicles owned by the commonwealth that are engaged in the <br /> control of snow and ice and emergency maintainance patrol, are re� <br /> quired to obtain a permit from the registrar of motor vehicles. <br /> Paragraph four of the registrar' s rules and regulations <br /> specifically states that on authority of a permit issued by the <br /> registrar, only duly appointed medical examiners or duly appointed <br /> physicians and surgeons attached to police departments of the <br /> commonwealth shall display a blue light n a state or town vehicle, <br /> A private vehicle while engaged on official duty only. <br /> There is no provision in the Massachusetts General Laws that <br /> authorizes the town health departments to require any vehicles <br /> under their control to display a blue light except as mentioned <br /> in the preceding paragraph. <br /> I hope this information will be of value to you. if there are <br /> any questions on the use of blue lights on the health agent' svehi- <br /> cle or any private vehicle that may be used by any board member, o <br /> if you need additional information, feel free to contact me. <br /> Thank you, <br /> Curtis W.
