COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER 1011 <br /> GENERAL STATET= OF DUTIES: Administers and assists the public health programs and ' <br /> services conducted and maintained by the county; performs related work as required. <br /> d0 <br /> SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general direction of the County Commissioners <br /> who review performance for adherence to established policies and for effectiveness. <br /> SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Exercises full supervision over a small number of employees <br /> in the Health Department, and working supervision over a number of employees in the <br /> Board of Health and schools. <br /> EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: <br /> 1. Develops, recommends, and administers professional policies for the <br /> department. <br /> 2. Counsels with regular staff members on policy and procedural matters or on <br /> specific problems which are unusual or complex. <br /> 3. Directs the operation of a program of inspection and examination to insure <br /> safe sanitary conditions in the public eating places and dairies and to <br /> protect potable water supplies. <br /> 4. Directs the establishment of sanitary-standards and the inspection of <br /> sewage disposal facilities. <br /> 5. Directs a program for the control of communicable disease through <br /> investigationand the compilation, and analysis of statistics. <br /> 6. Directs a public health nursing program to include home nursing and infant <br /> care).assists in the certification procedure for Home. Health Agencies. <br /> 7. Directs a child health program. <br /> 8. Initiates- court prosecution in cases where. violations cannot be corrected <br /> otherwise. <br /> 9. Participates in public relations to obtain support for programs and services; <br /> prepares and presents promotional material, gives talks and attends <br /> professional and public meetings. <br /> 10. Prepares and submits department budgets maintaining controls of expenditures. <br /> 11. Integrates public health services with activities of local medical groups <br /> and health agencies. <br /> QUALIFICATIONS• <br /> Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of public health administration; <br /> Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local legislation as related to public <br /> health of the county; <br /> Considerable ability to work effectively with public officials, physicians and <br /> dentists, professional organizations and private groups interested in <br /> public health programs; <br /> , Considerable ability to plan, direct and administer public health programs for <br /> th'e County <br /> Ability to write and speak effectively; <br /> Considerable experience in public health. <br />
