Inge yesterday (Tuesday, 5/29/84) at the
school and I guess we came about that close to losing, the school Doctor, he apologizes
n a. way for not having been in touch with this Board, but, he has been dissatisfied
with his pay up the re. H6 wants us to be aware of the Fact that it is for two ea-
sons that he has -remaind e
1, He w .'nt s to make try clear to us that he does not believe that we have
a ghost of' a chance of getting any other doctor for the amount of money that we are
paying him, that he's willing to come up there for. He reminds us that he is on
call for i henever the nurse needs him, that he comes wl-jen she picks up the phone
and says that there's a need, that he has had sole control of immunization urogram
and that it has been very successful and that we are in compliance with every re-
quirement and school health bodies, I spoke with him with regards to blood sugar
testing of senor (eighth grade) kids, that our view was not so much to get to the
children but to get to the families of the kids. He goys along with the word I've
gotten back, from the other doctors I've spoken to about it ,that he doesn't believe
it will be worth the time and the effort,, He will cooperate and does appreciate the
fact and thinks ve should go ahead in tie 'fall with a letter going from the school
to the parents if, there is a possibility with our contingency money we can set
up a. blook sugar clinic at Senior Citizens Bldg for the parents of the school children,
particularly those that are in the high risk categories, i.e. Blacks, Hispanics,
American Indian and that 40 year old age group that seem to be a high risk. At the
begirming of the Fall year we 111 work Tod th the School_ Department::and see if we can
get something started o
Mr. Wi Is on asked i f Dr. Inge had given any idea as to what kind of money he granted
Mr. Buckingham, " , he said as long as it keeps going up you're going in the right
direction. I thio he's getting 24M dollars per year. I haven'tounded, out'the
other school districts but 'm sure they are getting at least $300. per month* We
have a school doctor -for the year but if the Finance Odmmittee keeps bucking s on
increising his stipend we may not have one and I thin 'm ondering if we can'
vor , throught the School. Department to see i they cont contribute somewhere, either
pint it entirely in their school budget and let them make all the recoend.ations,
and we just simply get the reports from the Nurse,, if they want we can recommend a
doctor should they lase this one, we can work with them in that, l wonder i ' that
might be the area to discuss vth them as well.
Mr. Wilson questioned who appointed the school nursel,
Mr,, Buckingham said that if h remembered correctly they asked the BH for recor ,en»-
dat .ons by 6ubm .tting a list , aright after Cr ns retired,, they submitted a list
with their qualifications and one was picked.
