Page two
`own of Mashpee, Board of Health Meeting, December 16, 1985
At this meeting Gary Prahm was also present and. it was -the feeling of
Gabrielle that the ' suspect plume ' could be a swing by. from the known
f plume ' (this observation after looking at hydrolic influences in the
area, the definition of the } nown plume area, it could be a twist in
the water slope that could 'ring .it around, or, it could be from the
point source that we ]snow nothing about. It is not clear whether, or f
not the following was discussed cFB is now quoted)
cFB: 'one of the things that I would suggest .is, one of thethings
that I warted to discuss with her as well , relates to the Briarwood
area, as to just what testing should be done up there, or what could
he done up there, and -what the possibility of what the results would
be. Gary Prahm sat in the meeting with us, he ' s now with CCP, he had
been the director (can you hear me alright Roy?) ,he had been the di-
rector for the Laboratory at County Health and now he ' s no a grant
working with CCP, between the two of then the feeling was that random
tests. should he taken up there; that there should be a search rade by
some agency to locate the source of the contaminants that were found.
They advised' that we send a letter to Armando Cor onel, requesting
the assistance .of CCP in locating either a point of pressure we can
use to get some government money involved, or if there is govern ent
money available for that sore of thing to give us assistance in ap-
plying for -that money for this purpose. They also suggested that we
contact Virginia Valiela from Falmouth DPL DPW to see just how Famouth
were about putting the pressure on the Army or the Air Base to study,
and, that they didn' t feel it would do much good to have any of the
house wells in that area over-pumped, that .is by keeping their pump
running for a lore period of time before we took the test, because
they felt that in all probability .it wouldn ' t be productive. CCP&EDC
feels that if the testing is done in this area it could only be con-
sidered to be inconclusive, if testing comes back negative it could
give the residents a false sense of security. " CHL asked why we could
not have someone pump out the arsters well. , put a five day pump on
the damn thing. CFB questioned the payment for this . Discussion was
held on the placing of an article on the warrant for Legal/Engineering
in the amount of $50, 000 , for the Ashumet Pond area. CFB expressed
his pleasure with the manner in which the sub-committee is going a-
bout their work and the anticipation of any problems. CHL stated that
our primary concern is to get water to the Horseshoe Bend/Tri-Town
but then insinuated he would .like future development to be taken in-
to consideration. THE BOARD of HEALTH WILL MEET WITH THE SELECTMEN
ON TUESDAY 12/17/85 .
Minutes approved meeting 12/4/85 motion CHL second RLW.
Referring to Item 4 , Mr. Buckingham stated that in his discus,
sions with stetson Hall that starting in January S.H. thought that
the county could accomodate perhaps 15 gasometer tests. Letter to
Stetson requesting a date to go over grids. Gabrielle feels that
some tests should be performed near the ' suspect ' plume, others at
a further distance.
7. Report of K-V Associates study of Santuit Pond. NOTED
8. Ltr. from New Seabury re: advising corp of anything coming e--
fore this Board for action or discussion. CONSENSUS of BOARD THAT
THEY CAN SEND THEIR REPRESENTATIVES To MONITOR MEETING, GENERALLY,
NOTHING IS BROUGHT BEFORE THIS BOARD WITHOUT THEIR PEOPLE BEING
IN ATTENDANCE.
