Robichaud Maureen Peek Barbara So1 i Chair: This is a public hearing called by the Mashpee Board of Health, the purpose of which i to open for discussion the Min inn Standards of Swirrming Poo 1 s, State San itar r Code, Chapter V, Sect i ori 435.23 Lifeguards. These are additions to the State Requ i rents that the Town Board of Health is looking to irrplemnt. 1. The operator shall pry i de l i eguards 17 years of age or o l der holding a current Red Crass Advanced Saver's Certificate or Nation YMCA Lifesaver's certificate or equivalent, and a current Awr i can Heart Association or Ayer i can Red Cross CPR Cert i f i c ate and a Standard First Aid Certificate, or equivalent. If the Board of Health determines that they are necessary for the safe used of the swirrming poo 1. The deterrni rat i on of need should take into account the s i e, shape and capac i ty of the swirrmi ng-poo I. As a guy i de 1 i ne, it i s suggested that one 1 i feguard b provided for each 20 bathers. 2. . If no lifeguards are r eq u i regi by the Board of Health a warn i ng sign shall be pasted in a conspicuous location and shall state WARNING-NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY in easy to read, legible letters which are at least 4 in schwa 10chigh. In addition them will (shall) be signs which are readily visible stating CHILDREN UNDER � SIXTEEN SOLD NOT USE SWIFMING PDL WITHOUT AN ADULT IN ATTENDANCE AND ADULTS SWULD NOT SWIM ALONE. 3. The nurber of trained lifeguards determined n ecessary by the Board of Health shall be in constant attendance during bathing hours and no bather shall be permitted to the swimming pool un 1 es s this nuTber of l i fegua rd s is present. Chair: That's the regulation as proposed by the Board, as I say it is over and above the State Requ i rents for Sw i l ng Pool Standards, who i h have been set by the State and which are acknow- ledged by the State to be m i n i mm standards, giving the individual towns and Boards of Hea 1 th the right to exceed those standards in whichever area they might see fit. Chair: What we would look for, would be that you carne to us and describe your swirrming pool use and activities, and apply for, if ,you think you warrant i t, a wa i ver, a variance to the regu l at i ori. The regu l at i o'n- is not des i rd to put a burden upon the condominiun sw imrm i ng pool which is used by the owners of the area and we realize it will be used in the evening, will be used more in the evening and late afternoons, by adults.
