Presently, no formal communication exists from the state regarding
the town's performance requirements for the sampling and analysis
of their landfill monitoring wells, Until stch time that formal
recommendations exist it would be prudent to continue routine
sampling and analysis of these wells to determine any change in
observed characteristics over time., Any supply wells potentially
or actually impacted by this plume should - be identified and
remedied. This should include the DPW building, although bottled
Water is being provided for consumption, exposure can occur through
inhalation and washing.
The Summerwood condos should soon be hooked up to a town water
suppler. In the interim if problems should occur and residential
wells need to be analyzed theBCH-ED would be glad to provide
assistance to the Town.
Finally, it is evident that the landfill and the Summerwood plume
are discharging to the Mashpee River. The effect if any, to the
river and its ultimate discharge area is not known. This type of
contamination can be problematic to shellfish areas and surface
water resources. A thorough investigation should be undertaken b
the town to determine this. BCHED is willing to assist the town in
this endeavor.
i
I
5
