Ms. Curley stated that the good news is that the plumes are riot <br /> impacting-the Mashpee area. .The private wells found last year near lash were tested and were <br /> found to have no plume. The J , .Jhlrth and J2 East Olumes Were found to have the highest levels . <br /> of RDX contamination. Treatment for these plurnes is scheduled to begin'in August 2006. The Center is there for two purposes: 1 a one-stop-shop for information for the <br /> community and to run environmental programs that are related to current gp trainin practices. one of <br /> . _ <br /> the main issues the Center is currently dealing with is the ammunition being used at the target practice <br /> areas. The tungsten ammunition-being used was found to be very mobile(breaks down and moves <br /> quickly into the soil). The Any Environmental-Center i urrently"in�resti-acing the situation.,in <br /> February 2006 the Dove r of Mass. decided 'o suspend use of the ammunition, to err on the side of <br /> caution. Fr rn May 2 through dune 21 '2006, 5,250 tons of soil containing the tun sten was removed <br /> to a site onto pile liners where it is covered with canvas and Cashed down with sand bags and ropes. <br /> There is a need to find an,alternative to the tungsten ammunition. sills. Wadsworth stated that they are <br /> currently working with the regulators of the Fire Protection Agermcy on a pollutioin prevention plan which <br /> they hope to complete by May 2007. <br />
