TOWN OF MASHPEE <br /> BOARD of HEALTH - PUBLIC SESSION <br /> Minutes of the Meeting in of Wednesday, June 23, 2010 <br /> f as pee Town Miall —conference Room I <br /> Board Members Present: Also Present: <br /> Burton Kaplan, Chairman Glen Harrington, Health Agent <br /> Kalliope Egloff, Co-Chairman <br /> Lucy Burton, Clerk <br /> Chairman Burton Kaplan called the meeting to order at-7:00 pm. <br /> APPOINTMENTS <br /> *15 PM Tribal Council—Variance Request-483 Great Deck Road l South <br /> Bob Sanda, representing Callahan Inc., introduced himself to the Board, stating that per <br /> Title V regulation 15.223, 200% of design flow is required for the septic tank. Callahan <br /> Inc. is asking for a v dance from 200%to .loo%, per the recommendation from <br /> quaPoint, manufacturer of the tank. <br /> Glen Harrington stated that this is a BOH provisional approval through DLP. DEP has a <br /> specific approval letter stating that the septic or equalization tank shall be designed for <br /> minimum of 36 hours of retention time at design flow, and one of the tanks would be <br /> required to have a minimum capacity of 6000 gallons. When equalization is not <br /> required, the septic tank can be designed for 24 hour retention. Callaghan is.requesting <br /> a variance to use 2 hour retention on the septic tank in order# keep the water from <br /> r <br /> cooling down, which would occur if the larger tank were installed_ Title V states that it <br /> should be 48 hour retention, but DEP states that either the septic tank or the <br /> equalization tank can be 36 hour retention. <br /> I 4 <br /> Glen Harrington stated that the Board is being asked by Callahan Inc. to approve 2 <br /> i n t the manufacturer's request but the manufacturer adds that it is a <br /> hour retention q . <br /> variance to Title V regulations, in which case DBP approval is required. <br /> Kalliope Egloff made a motion to approve the variance request by Callahan Inc. to <br /> decrease the septic tank requirement from Z00% of design flow to 100%, per the <br /> recommendation from AquaPoint, manufacturer of the tank} subject to DEP concurrence. <br /> Lucy Burton seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously approved. <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> 1. Sign Warrant. Board members signed the warrant. <br /> 2. Approve Public session Minutes: June 9, 2010. <br /> Kalliope Egloff made a motion that the Board of Health approve as amended the minutes <br /> of the Public Session meeting held on 6/09/10. Lucy Burton seconded the motion. The <br /> motion was unanimously approved. <br /> 3. Revised smoking Regulation. <br /> The Burd members reviewed the most recent revised smoking regulation draft and <br /> made additional changes to the document.
