He will be contacting the new director of the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce to discuss the idea of advertising Mashpee for its historical significance, not just to shop at Mashpee commons. Since we do not have a historical society, with the help of the chamber, we should try to attract more visitors to our historical venues which will also benefit the business community as people stay for lunch and visit local merchants. Frank was going to ask Brian Hyde to write a short article about his Mashpee Indian history classes, include a picture, and send it to the Mashpee Enterprise to be published. Accessions: We have a several items that are listed in the Accessions Book, and we mentioned that we would really like to have some of the items at the Archives appraised, as well as some of the artifacts we have on display at the one-room schoolhouse. Old Business: We need to appoint a member of the Commission to the Community Preservation Committee. We made a motion, and it was seconded, that Frank Lord be appointed to fill this vacancy. Frank will check with the commission to find out about the meetings schedule. Both Lee and Rosemary will try to assist by backing him up if necessary. New Business: Rosemary has written several articles on Mashpee's places of special interest, such as the Collins Lot, the one room schoolhouse, and others. Lee is formatting the text to handout brochures. This work is progressing, and we should have several prepared very soon. We are considering several other topics, such as, Mashpee's soldiers, maritime activities, Blind Joe Amos and other interesting Mashpee people, and other areas of research already done by Rosemary. The meeting was adjourned at 12:30am. The next meeting will be in late August 2009. The date will be determined shortly. i
