i <br /> SAS -WAS ' 'LAS SAG 1 ANT COMMITTEE <br /> 4 <br /> Minutes of the June 30,, 1998 Meeting <br /> Committee members present: James McGonagle (chair), Steve Cadrin(secretary), <br /> William Marsters, George Bingham, William Taylor <br /> Cal Order <br /> The meeting commenced at 7:00pm. <br /> There was no public comment. <br /> Motions were made to approve the April 14, 1998 and May 2 , 1998 minutes: approved <br /> unanimously. <br /> Qld BUsines5 <br /> Committee members reported that water'leels were extremely high. Progress on the water level <br /> study was discussed. A letter of response from Massachusetts Natural Heritage was discussed <br /> which stated that the agency is still concerned about the water level management plan with <br /> respect to threatened species. The 'T'rustees of reservations offered technical support to review <br /> the issue and c mmum'cate the Committee's concerns to Natural Herta e. The Committee <br /> agreed that assistance from the Trustees would be a benefit and the Committee should meet with <br /> Trustees staff. <br /> New Bgsineg <br /> The J. Braden Thompson contaminant plume was discussed. Massachusetts Department of <br /> Environmental Protection acquired access to land on Trout Bane and plans to pump water and <br /> return filtered water to the Pond. <br /> The cher reported that Bob whritnour sent a letter to Mosquito Control requesting that the darn <br /> he cleaned out. The chair suggested that signs be placed at the dam to warn against throwing <br /> rocks into the darn. The chair offered to invite Massachusetts Department of Environmental <br /> Management to an on-site meeting to discuss the water level management plan. <br /> Committee members commented that the Harbormaster has not been seen on the Pond. The <br /> Committee agreed that more law enforcement was needed on the Pond, particularly on <br /> weekends. <br /> memo from the Secretary to the Committee was discussed. The Secretary requested that <br /> verbal and written correspondence from the Committee be approved by vote, and that non- <br /> approved communications be explicitly identified as personal opinion.
