NIASBPEE - WAKEBY LAKE MANCONMTTEE
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF MAY 259 1999
The regular meeting of the Mashpee - Wakeby Lake Management Committee was called
to order by the Chairman, William Marsters at 7-30 PM. The members present were Mr.
Marsters., the Vice Chairman, William Taylor and Member, George Bingham 111.
There were no comments from the public.
The Secretary, Steven Cadrin, was not present and no minutes were available for review
and acceptance.
Chairman Marsters brought to the attention of the committee members that the list of Bass
Tournaments scheduled for Mashpee and Wakeby lakes shows a tournament scheduled for
Sunday, October 17 with sixty boats planned. This is 0% higher then the next
largest with forty boats on Saturday, September 18'h. Mr. Marsters pointed out that
this far exceeded the parking available and that this would completely drive out any pubfic
use of the lakes on that day. He will contact Perry Ellis about this tournament.
Mr. Marsters passed out copies of a petition received by the selectmen on October 23,-
1998.
,.1998. This petition had not previously been given to the MWLMC. The petition stated as
follows;
CC We,, the undersigned, live directly on Mashpee - Wakeby porn. We request that neither
the towns of Mashpee or Sandwich attempt to restrict our recreational use of this body of
water by restricting specific types of activities or the hours they can be enjoyed unless they
are restricted under Massachusetts state laves or Coast guard Regulations."
Mr. Marsters pointed out that the helve 12 signers from nine 9 households made up a
very small percentage of the homeowners on the lakes and that he had not checked to see
which were summer people and which were year round residents. No further action was
taken.
The conn issio ers discussed the current lake level. Mr. Marsters stated that in his
opinion the current level of Mashpee-Wakeby lakes was satisfactory. He passed out
copies of a letter dated November 2, 1998 from Greg Taylor to Bob Whritenour. This
letter stated that the lake had receded to a level fifteen 1 inches less thea that on July 1,
1998. -It was pointed out that the fresh water mussels which had caused concern before
had either followed the lake level down or expired. There is no further action needed at
this time on the lake level.
Where being no further agenda items the meeting was adjourned at 835 PM.
The next meeting of the Mashpee - Wakeby Lake Management Committee will be held on
Tuesday June 22, 1999.
Respectfully submitted,
wOe a r §ecretary
r
