M-dshrpee-
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashy Massachusetts 02649
m4shpeewWakeby kManagement Commi
Minutes of the Meeting of January 23, 2001
The regulator meeting of the M shp - 1I k by Lake Management Committee is
called to order by the Vice-chairman William Taylor at 7:30 p.rn. In addition t
Nor. Taylor, those members present are George Bingham, Steve C drin and Hans
Fritshi. This provides the required quorum.
Also present: No public present.
Since the Inst committee meeting, Mr. Taylor reports that Colonel Murray met
with the tern and reviewed proposed state regulations for Mshp -vkby
Lake. Colonel Murray found no problem with the proposed regulations, except
for the Section G and regulating a 9:00 a.m. starting time for personal
watercraft. Section G will be_removed and personal watercraft will be prohibited
after 7:00 p.m.
In the interim period since the committee's last meeting, Mr. Cadrin has attended
the DEP meeting held on the subject of Mashpee-v akeby Lake plume. The
lune is smaller in volume than original estimate being some 6,000f long, in a
straight line, 900' wide and 60" thick. 'The plume discharge into Pickerel Cove is
not detectable above the 1' level from the lake bottom. The plume volume of
chlorine solvent content would have core from the equivalent of one 55-gallon
drum. The state is committed to funding the cleanup.
At the DEP meeting, the results were issued for the study of the diff rent
technologies under consideration for use in recharge reinjection, and a carbon
absorption technology will be used. The treatment facility will cost $1.5 million
to build, and cost million to maintain over a 40-year time period. Within 10
years it is expected that 80% of the plume should have been treated and
reinjected
.
i
