T
f
4
Tet Ski Accident on Xashpee-Wakeby Lake
Discussion ensued regarding a serious accident, which occurred on the Lake on
July 23 when a jet ski operator ran into a swimmer, who sustained serious
injuries. According to the information available, the swimmer was well
within the limits set for swimming from offshore, and the jet ski was
speeding, as well as driving too close to shore.
Letter to Cot. Mwra
It was agreed by all in attendance that the critical issue here is how to
enforce the current rules that cover jet ski operations on the Lake. The
decision was made to compose a letter to Colonel Murray, stating:
a) the concern of the Mashpee- Takeby Lake Management Committee regarding
the lack of enforcement of the current rules
b) a request that he provide Perry Ellis ASAP with State tickets
a request that the State assist Perry Ellis with additional staff to
patrol the lake
d) a request that the State increase its presence on the lake, to deter
boat and jet ski operators from blatantly ignoring the current rules
and regulations
It was agreed that the Selectman's office should approve the lett4pr before it
is sent to Col. Murray. It was also suggested that perhaps the Selectman' s
Office would agree to send a similar' letter, to enforce the serious nature o
the situation. A copy of the letter to the Boston Globe, Mashpee Enterprise,
Barnstable Dept. of Natural Resources, and the sandwich Consecration Agent
would further assist in greater coverage of the story to the dblic.
It was suggested that we ask Perry Ellis to get a copy of the police report
of the accident from the sandwich Police Dept. This )gold protide the
Committee with accurate details of exactly vat occurred.
The Recording secretary agreed to work up a draft of the above-suggested
,fetter for review by the Committee.
Bill 24arsters Report
Bill reported that people are staying overnight on the Reservation. This is
against the current regulations. There are no toilet facilities available o
the Reservation, which creates a 'serious health problem.. The question is,
what will be done about the its on.
112 Taylor Report
Bill reported that the State Water Resources made a s f the duality of
all waters on Cape Cod. The state is asking for voluears to get involved
in this ongoing project. Bill Marsters will call forj'ire information.
Next Nevs2etter
The next Newsletter will be issued sometime later this year. It was
suggested that we include a copy of the letter to Col. Murray, and that we
include a copy of the Mashpee- akeby map marked with the swim areas.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 28th at 7:30 PM at Ma hpee Town
Hall. The meeting was adjourned at 9 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
FW41L,,
Ina chlobol
Rec ding secretary
