-[Age 'da.to'i::41Ph0sPhPrus
pc
Mr. Baker explained that total phosphorus samples were rare on the five ponds in Mashee by the
Barnstable Dept. of Health. The Environmental Coalition -Lmded the sampling, which was done for$15
instead of 1. The members felt that additional samples should be collected from the bog area of Wakeby
Lake,, after bog flooding for picking the berries. b&. Marsters suggested we get the name of the bog
owner. lir. Marsters also felt the lack of portable toilets on the Trustees of Reservations land contributed
to the problem, and expressed an interest in asking the town to help fund portable toilets on this land.
Conclusions: Furtherhosp horns samples should be collected to try to compare the phosphorus data.on
Mashpee and Waleby Lakes, and with other lakes that do not have a cranberry bog in close proirity.
Action items:
..
t
f. 7[Ad
.,- - -
Discussion: Discussion was again held regarding the boards 'and large concentration of sand blocking the
dam area, which will prevent the-proper operation of the data for.herring. The report,of the dans inspection
that was done 4/3/98 by Theep artment of Environmental Management Office of Dani Safety was
reviewed. Maps show the late level should be maintained at 55 feet above sea level. It was felt we should
contact Edward Clark of the Division of Marine Fisheries,to see if he was responsible for maintaining the
boards and darn, although reports orfs mention that Greg Taylor of the l ashpee Dept. of Public Works
p
is responsible. There is no herring Warden-in 1 ashpee at the present time. Is the town g ing to fund and
fill this position? Are guidelines going to be written and followed to properly maintain the darn and
correct lake level?
Mosquito control hel clew out the giver in the past and can be contacted through the r-iculture
p
Dept. Mosquito Control in Yar outhport at 50 8-775-15 10.
Conclusions: Mr. Marsters and Mrs. Nichols will try to get information.
Respectfully submitted,,
Barbara B. Nichols
