Discussion: The 2X4 put in the sluiceway by Ferry Ellis has been removed, and water is once again
flowing, allowing the numerous small herring to leave the lake. There is still over 18 inches of sand
filling the front of the sluiceway and spilling over into the sluiceway, that needs to be removed. DPW has
cleaned out the approach area to the sluiceway,.but when Mr. Taylor was again questioned about having
Mosquito Control remove the 'sand, he said that it was up to Perry Ellis. Lake Management reviewed
letter from 1998, which showed that DPW did clean out the sluiceway when asked by the Town.Manager,
mr. whrltenour. Mrs. Nichols and 1 Mr. Fritschi Va'11 contact Mr. Ellis for help. If this is not successful, we
will set up ars appointment nth Joyce Mason, Mr. Marsters and Mrs. Nichols measured the water level at
the sluiceway on October 28,, 2004. Data shows the cement bottom of the sl icway, put in by Mr.
Virgillio, a former DPW Head, was a at 53.3 feet.. This is too high, according to Horsley and Ott n's
engineering report. The water level was at 4 ft. 10 inches on the lakefront side of the sluiceway as
measured from the.cement bottom through the sand to the top. There is 2 feet I l inches from the cement
top, down to the water level. Approximately 8 inches of water was rmning in the stream by the steps. We
will continue to collect.data and monitor-the situation.
Conclusions: The.sluiceway needs to-be cleaned out to function correctly, both to protect the hrng and
the laeshore frontage. The committee is greatly concerned about the lack of management in this area.
