_ [Agmda .- pi .]-W:4tetf6wl - : l'
Discussion: Barbara Nichols spoke with Mike Gratis.of the Bourne Natural Resource Dept. ourne's
waterfowl feeling bylaw has been in effect since the mid 's, and only people who openly defied
enforcement were fined. A similar bylaw is in effect ire Sandwich, and he thought also Wareham. Most
people seen feeding waterfowl were just given educational handouts, as the bylaw was used as an
educational tool. The Nat. Resource Dept and Police Dept. enforced the bylaw. Mr. Gratis wondered if_..
Rick York, the Shellfish warden, might help gain the Selectmen's approval. Coliform bacteria from
congregating waterfowl can close shellfish beds. Mrs. Nichols called Rick York and asked for his support.
At first, Rick thought he could get a speaker for us at Town Meeting, but this fell through. He did give us
about 400 pamphlets put out by the State against the feeding of waterfowl. Mrs. Nichols asked Joyce
Mason and Deborah f ami for permission to hand out there brochures prior to the Town Meeting. Mr.
Taylor agreed to help l&s. Nichols hand out the brochures, and Hans thought his wife would help also.
There is-4a state law in the Hunting Abstract that prohibits baiting of wild birds, bear or deer. A law
against baiting is also noted in the Federal and Mass. migratory Carne Bird Law and Regulations. These
are hunting ordinances of which most people would be unaware.
Ed Baker spoke to the Blue Ribbon Committee and they voted to tale the bylaw back to the Selectmen
and ask again for-their support, which was, done. The selectmen still oppose the bylaw.,
{ Conclusions: Mrs. Nichols will present the by' law at the Annual Town Meeting on May 1, 2006
time-aH tt .Y.
' -} - ass:,. 5 . F
Discussion:: Bill Mars ers brought up charging bass tournament participants for entry and parking, but
because the ramp is state owned, this is not an option. Ferry Ellis was not able to attend the meeting, but
he provided a list of 06 bass tournaments. On paper, no tournament has more.than 35 boats, which is the
limit of the parking lot. Members felt that the May 28th American Bass tournament should be monitored,
as last year 60 boats were entered.
Conclusions: The bass tournament list will be included in the newsletter.
. ... .r . ..,....f._,.' .. p. ,.i-.
'rrme--allot [ _ epi t x f
. o .: -x.b. ,rx esltfer.
+
It
Discussion: Ed Baker presented 6 1/ pages of our topic suggestions in newsletter form. Haas is working
i on a history item., and with the addition of the bass tournament information, we should be able to publish
the spring newsletter in May.
Conclusions: The newsletter will be completed soon.
Respectfully submitted, _
Barbara B. Nichols
