DeFoe <br /> From: Janet Burl <br /> Re; Monthly Report <br /> The month ofJuly has seen a lot ofactivity ire the Children's Room as 258 children <br /> registered to participate in the Summer leading Program. Each child received a reading <br /> log on which to keep track of the amount of time spent reading this sunun r. Each week <br /> the children bring their reading log into the library to be stamped and receive a small <br /> prize. <br /> I have been running two weekly contests to inspire the children to visit the library. Each. <br /> week the Trivia Contest wumer receives a"F of Ali... READ!" T-shirt. Two Book <br /> Blurb (which is a mini boob report) Contest winners receive coupon good for a free <br /> pia from Finally Dino's. Many parents have commented favorably about the weekly <br /> contests and incentives as inspiring their child to continue to read. <br /> As part of the Sununer Reading Pro gram, f have held FamifrStory Time every <br /> Saturday. On Saturdays I announce the winners of the weekly contests. The attendance <br /> has been as follows.- <br /> July <br /> ollows.July 14 1h' 1 <br /> July 2 1 <br /> July 2 8 h 10 <br /> Library Club, a neer pr'o 'am this summer for older students (entering grade 4 and up <br /> started in July and has been quite successful. Each week the students participate in a <br /> dif 'erentctivity. There are 28 children registered, however, attendance varies due to <br /> summer activities and vacations. The attendance for the month of July was as follows: <br /> July 3 to - 16 Famous Firsts Craft Activity <br /> July 10,h - 1 7 Parlor Carnes, <br /> July 17`h - 22 Guest Artist taught Boondoggle <br /> July 24" - 18 Roger Tinct nell presented Multicultural Instruments <br /> July 3 1 -34 Rainforest M* a Bottle <br /> This month we held four programs as part of the Connecting Cultures grant project. on <br /> July "' vire had a Sing-Along with Shawn Butler and his Seeing-Eye Dog. Shawn <br /> discussed his disability and shored some of the special aids he uses - a talking watch, a <br /> Braille laptop computer, and his dog. He thea played his guitar and invited everyone to <br /> sing along. 61 participants enjoyed the program. <br /> On July 1 ire held a M lticulturaf Family Craft Project in the evening. Kathleen <br /> Battles presented informatipn on Ancient Egypt and then provided the craft project of a <br /> Egyptian breastplate made out of beads. The attendance for this program was 4. <br />
