Mashpee Library Expansion Committee Minutes of Sull 1,, 2002 Yaffe -2- Sheldon Gilbert: Mr. Gilbert again discusses issues regarding using the existing library vs. new construction. He saygests to the board that we be fulli informed for any questions the town or selectmen will prosont to us. He feels, as does the board, that we should show that we have all dans our "homeworK" and researched every available avenue of savings to the town. john F*nz informs the board that Mr. Roberts initial feelings are to use new construction, although formally that information is still in the design phase and will be left up to the professionals to present both the post of new construction and using the existing building. The town must be informed as to the actual real cost of using the old building vs. new construction. The issue is brought up about whether or not the previous architacfi"s proposal was wasted. It was not waste, the board and town learned quite a bit about costs, etc. and the math will be. straightforward this time. Helens DeFoe presents the information that when this present building was built in tQSto on1Y half the size they really needed was built. Now if according to population build out, the 104,000 square foot building was built and was doubled in size now, we would get our 20,000 square foot building request that we need today. The Mashpee Library &xQaasiori Committee would IiYe to formally accept the very generous donation from Mr. Buff Chaco to be, put towards tMe design phase of the new library contingent upon the acceQtarir.o of all appropriate town officials. The Board discusses the A-dido they are preparing to bo. ,submitted to the town for the October Town meeting requesting additional funding for the architect. Will this donation from Mr. Chace affect the dollar amount the board is rtquosting? Mr. Gonnolll will discuss. this with Tolco Mason and hold the article for the moment. It is recommended that Ms. Mason speaK with Sohn Benz dirt.61 to clear up the specifics on this matter. The Board will offii;ally hold off submitting the F-FiP and maKe amendments to the scope of services from Randall imai. Kevin Connolly will speaK to 7oyco Mason regarding these two issues.
