We explained that he was offering two-plans for consideration. Plan 1 incorporates the
existing.library building into a new building addition. Plan demolishes the existing libraryend
constructs ars entirely new library building.- Both plans occupy the salve site,With Pian 2 sitting.
slightly further back from Steeple.Street.
Plan I calls for ars approximate0,000 square ft.desi n, with 5,296 square ft. on the first floor,
_ 7,500 square.fit. on the second floor with an additional new 8000 square ft. The first floor includes
a front lobby, with circulation desk, administrative offices, a meeting room with:kitchenette,'
bathrooms, a children's department with toddler area, picture books, children's program area and
storage area. The second floor houses.adult services, fiction and non-fiction'stacl s# a young
adult area and study area with comfortable seating,
Plan also c -- .. ---'--
calls for approximately 0too9 square ft The'logic for both plans is very similar, Frith --
Plan 2 having a little more room on the first floor. An elevator is included in both plans. r
Randall Imai Site Presentation
The new library site.location will remain the same, with provision for 98 parkingspaces to the rear
of the building. Randall stated that allowing for future expansion is an important issue to keep in
,rand. Adding a basement would be one possible expansion plan. The current plans do not
include a basement—the cost to add a basement would run about o per square ft. Materials
. p
and colors for the-outside of the build* are still under consideration. The committee agreed that
low maintenance, materials are a must. Both plans call for a two-way driveway with entran6e to
the right of the library from Steeple Street. The exit d-riveway to Steeple Street currently to the left
facing the library will be eliminated because of inadequate footage between the building and Mobs
Fishing Rd.
Cost .Estimates(see Attachment A f r Details), 1r. 'Roberts resented cost differentials for
r x
both plans. Both architects recommended Play a e most economically feasible choice for the
committee. The cost to start from scr # h will.be about1 of 9 more, will be easier to
construct, and will result i a much bet e r du- t. Approximate construction time was estimated
-
at 14 months.
Sheldon Gilbert made a motion that the 'architects proceed with new construction plans follovwrin
Plan 2. Grace Talmage seconded the motion. The committee roan' u i 9
ee u pro approved the motion.
