This represents a 9%.margin in favor of the new <br /> library. reasons given for the negative votes included. concern about possible tax increases, <br /> the public school system competing with the new library for money toward needed textbooks, and <br /> the demolition of the existing library. Dave Burton reported on a conversation he had with Becky <br /> l omkey regarding her concern about the library bond exclusion taking away needed funds for <br /> school books. He explained to her that the funds for school books come from a separate Town <br /> budget. A letter to the editor of the l ashpee Inquirer also has cjarified to this issue. <br /> SUBCOMMITTEE E POTS <br /> Publicity—Bonnie Barrett. Bonnie Barrett summed up the results of the subcommittee's efforts <br /> in threewords: "WE DJD IT!" she expressed her thanks to all those who worked along with her <br /> on the subcommittee for their generous contributions of time and effort to make it all happen. <br /> Bonnie further-state -that because the Grote was tied in to a federal election as opposed to <br /> special Town election, more people came to the polls, and we now have a much greater mandate <br /> for the library, which gives us a much better feel for where the majority of the townspeople stand <br /> on support for the new library. 4 <br /> Construction—Steve Cook and Jane Dolan. Steve reported that he is reassessing and <br /> compiling information taken from the reports submitted by those individuals who attended the <br /> library forum this spring. He would like to set up a meeting with the LBC to go over the <br /> recommendations submitted by the forum attendees before meeting with the architect. Jane <br /> Dolan stressed the importance that the schematics submitted with the state grant application <br /> include the required square footage for the new library. Pros and cons of the inclusion of a <br /> basement will meed to be discussed. Sheldon Gilbert brought up a problem with a possible plan <br /> to use the new library basement for storage of the Archives. The grant application stipulates that <br /> unless the Archives are under the direct supervision of the library, It would not be permissible to <br /> house a-separate department in the library. <br /> Fundraising— Tom O'Neill. Sheldon Gilbert reiterated that a comprehensive fundraising <br /> program is needed to guide all future fundraising efforts, spelling out targets and target dates, and <br /> indicating who is responsible for what. This is a requirement for the Grant application. We need <br />
