Cape Light Compact has already <br /> met with Jane Dolan and Stev6 Cook, and will be able to assist the LEC further with aspects of <br /> the building design and construction, and also with HVAC, but only when we are in a position to <br /> pay their consulting fees. <br /> UPDATE.ON STATE BOND AUTHORIZATION--Helene DeFoe <br /> Helene DeFoe stated that the signs are favorable. There is movement again in the state <br /> legislature on the bill. According to Christa McLoud, President of the Massachusefts Library <br /> Association, they are holding off on a lot of other business until the health care issue is settled. <br /> Helene reported that she a'ten ed a workshop on March 16th in Natick n Assistive Technology. <br /> The workshop was on buildings that work for everyone and Igo to serve patrons with disabilities.There was a panel of four persons—an architect; a library director who had just recently finished <br /> constructing a new building; a gentleman in.a wheel chair who was a community advocate for the <br /> Metro Independent Living Center.in Framingham; and a woman rising a scooter, who was <br /> Director of information for Adaptive Environment on how to serve peciple with disabilities. The <br /> architect spore about historic buildings and how to tie in the accessibility features while protecting <br /> the integrity of the building at the same time. The Community Advocate suggested d contacting a <br /> luring independent center to gain insight into the kinds of things their clients need. The woman in <br /> the Scooter discussed not only people who are mobility impaired but also those who are visually <br /> i <br /> impaired and showed slides of a blind person with a care. For example,water fountains, and a <br /> fire extinguisher sticking out are potential hazards for visually challenged persons. These items <br /> could be recessed into niche to prevent accidents. stairs can be equipped with light strips with <br /> colors that contrast with the carpeting on the stairs. Also suggested was to make the hand rail on, <br /> the stairs a different color to stand out, An open staircase, into which a visually impaired person <br /> might walk, could have shelves built or place furniture under the stairsto alert a person with a <br /> cane to move away from it. These are ideas that will be passed along to Stewart Roberts. <br /> FUNDF Af fN REPORT-- Melinda Gallant, <br /> Melinda gave a full report on the fundraising highlights to date, a copy of which is attached to <br /> these minutes (see Attachment A); Melinda also reported on the Larch tri library model <br /> unveiling, which was a great success. The model will move to Town Hall, to the Quashnet <br /> School, and from there will go to the Senior center and Christ the Ping Church. Tom O'Neill will <br /> expedite the moves. <br /> f <br />
