HISTORIC DISTRICT ST"Y COAEM[ITTEE <br /> THURSDAY,MARCH 9,2000 <br /> MASH-PEE TOWN ALL <br /> Present: Joe Polito,Frank Hicks, Earl Mills, Ed Callahan, Torn Fudala <br /> Meeting convened at 4,35 p.m. <br /> Torn spore With Ann whitlow of the Historic Commission about the status of the PAL study.. They <br /> are waiting fpr input fonn the Tribal Council. It is her understanding that Mark Harding will <br /> continue to review PAL material for the bribe. They have been given an extension of time so the <br /> tribal councican 'e ie v it. This is a mandatory item or the district. <br /> Earl will talk to people at the Trial Council to try to expedite this. <br /> At the last m.e' eting, Tom presented proposed boundaries for the Mashpee Center District and the <br /> r <br /> Main Street Pistrict. Because there was not a quote, the boundaries were not voted on. <br /> Tom asked that they he voted on'at this meeting. <br /> Tam reviewed the revised map showing the proposed boundaries for the Mashpee Center Historic <br /> District, inegrporating discussion from the last meeting. <br /> The orange are'historic sites and the red existing historic structures. <br /> Torn explained that the Mashpee Oversoul Theater was proposing to build a theater at the former <br /> IPSO/town hall site at Heritage Park. The building would have been a recreation of the original <br /> building. At the last Selectmen s meeting, it was decided to give them a site on the property next to <br /> town hall, wich the town is in the process of purchasing. The Selectmen did not want the theater to <br /> interfere wit Kittle League parking at Heritage Park. <br /> The proposed boundary goes � lots beyond Heritage park. <br /> Torn suggested the'Committee look at creating subcommittee's to focus on some aspects of what <br /> needs to be done to establish the districts. <br /> Joe asked if all-this work will be for naught, if people don't grant it. People may not want it because <br /> of architectural controls. <br /> Tom said it was an overwhelming vote at town.meeting to create the study committee. There was a <br /> lot of adverse reaction in town to'. <br /> the Dunkin Donuts(on lite 130). The committee will want to test <br /> the waters before going to town meeting. <br /> Earl said Heritage Park also known as Oakley Field, in his mind has historical significance. At one <br /> time there w s a house at the site. -Pow wows traditionally were Meld there. The town hall was there <br /> at one time. <br /> Joe said it bothers him that Morgan Peters couldn't put his theater there. Is there another agenda <br /> going on? <br /> Tom said is incumbent on this Committee to build support for the district; explain it to people and <br /> 1 <br /> i <br />
