Mashpee Historic District Study Committee
Minutes
August 19, 1999
The Mashpee Historic District Study Committee (MHDSC)held a meeting on Thursday,
August 19, at 10:30 AM at Mashpee Archives building.
Members present were Earle Mills, Frank Hicks, Ed Callahan, Tom Fudala, Joe Polito, &
Diane Wilson. Russell Peters was absent.
E. Mills called the meeting to order at 11:00 AM,
T. Fudala distributed a memo from the Selectmen in response to the zoning article which
is intended to be submitted to Annual Town Meeting. The Article will add the phrase
"Mashpee Center Overlay District"to current zoning districts already outlined in Section
174-4. The Article will be discussed on Wednesday, August 26 at 6:30 PM at the
Selectman's meeting at Town Hall. It was suggested that perhaps R. Peters, as Chairman
of the Committee, should attend.
E. Mills reminded the Committee that today's meeting was scheduled to learn how the
Mashpee Historic Commission (MHC) can contribute in the way of shared information to
the efforts of MHDSC.
F. Hicks raised the issue of the Committee's focus. T. Fudala's response indicated the
Committee is waiting on PAL's report (September) before defining a focus-adding that
the Committee has been appointed to study a traditional town center. J. Polito raised the
issue of the proposed Memorial Park, saying it hasn't yet been approved because the bid
submitted was higher than the panned budget.
Next, Rosemary Burns gave a• tour/overview of "what to find where" in.the Archives
facility. Both she and Tom Maroney are available to assist Committee members in
locating records they may need. Mary Kate Harrington from PAL spoke briefly to offer
other resources. Specifically, she suggested contacting the Town of Rochester.
Rochester has recently established a historic district of its own, and Ms. Harrington
suggested it may be helpful to discover the process which was used to accomplish their
goals.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at 4:30 PM at Town
Hall.
J. Polito moved to adjourn the meeting. E. Callahan seconded. All agreed.
Meeting adjourned at 12:15 PM.
ands Gault
