Also in attendance was <br /> Superintendent of Schools Sherwood F luery and Bookkeeper Gail Scorgie. <br /> Mrs. Cook called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Topic <br /> for discussion was the FY2000 school budget and the ramifications of the failure to <br /> pass the override vote of May 8, 1999. <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Paxton, to move into an emergency <br /> executive session. at 7:33 p.m. <br /> Roll Call vote: In favor — Mrs. Cook, Mr. Paxton, Ms. Macdonald, and Mrs. Lynch; <br /> opposed—none. <br /> The special meeting reconvened at 7:45 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. Mrs. Cook <br /> turned the meeting over to Mr. El eery who outlined the proposed reductions for the <br /> 1999-2000 school year (see Exhibit A). <br /> After Mr. Fluery's presentation, Mrs. Cook reiterated that neither the School Committee, <br /> the Board of Selectmen nor the Finance Committee are to blame for having to make <br /> these budget reductions/eliminations. <br /> At this point, a public forum was held to discuss the proposed outs. Speakers included <br /> Sandy Reichel; Nancy Bovies; Shawn, Ryan and Any Johnson; Chris Maguire; Katie <br /> Farrell; Laurie Murphy; Ashley Bolbrock; Gino 11 ontessi; Jen Baker; Danielle Murphy; <br /> Robin Leggatt; Kathy Smola; Eileen Sardinha; Paul Phinney, Sarah Kemp; Steve Miceli; <br /> Robert Dias, and Michael Gross. <br /> Mrs. Cook then asked each School Committee member in attendance to make a <br /> statement regarding them thoughts and feelings of these cuts. <br /> Motion was made by Mrs. Lynch, seconded by Ms. Macdonald, to make the follo mi g <br /> proposed reductions: <br /> TOTALS <br /> • full-day kindergarten to a half-day program. <br /> • 4.5 kindergarten teachers $148,500 <br /> • 2.5 teaching assistants $ 3030000 <br /> • .9 specialist 29,700 <br /> $208,200 <br /> • elementary instrumental $ 542635 <br /> • elementary band and chorus $ 17,500 <br /> • high school instrumental $ 2%300 <br /> • Athletics $191,2 '7 <br /> • All elementary extra-curricular $ 6;,900 <br /> • Monitors 301,000 <br /> • Centralized library 1 librarian director and 3 assistants) $ 60,000 <br />
