Public Forum Donna Lopez, Coordinator for the Original Kids Together (OKT) program, <br /> attended the meeting to address the Committee on the concept of OKT. <br /> Her daughter, Megan Lopez, explained how O T is an after-school outlet <br /> for students to discuss not only gay and lesbian issues but also <br /> prevention of school violence and racial concerns. <br /> Jennifer Willette read OKT's mission statement and issued an invitation to <br /> attend the open douse on January 18th at 2:00 p.m. in the Indian <br /> Education Room in the high school. <br /> Phyllis Sprout questioned the Committee on when she would be receiving <br /> a response to her letter of May. 1999 regarding serving on the curriculum <br /> committees. Mrs. Ly .ch'responded that due to the superintendent search <br /> and important budgetary issues "the ball was dropped." Mrs. Lynch will <br /> follow-up Mrs. Sprout's letter-in the near future. <br /> III. Acknowledgments Mrs. Lynch acknowledged the following school-related activities: <br /> .1. Art-1-Gras Button•- Rachael l Fermino, Grade-3.,- ashnet ive <br /> School - This button was chosen from more than 1,500 entries submitted <br /> by Mashpee elementary students. <br /> 4.2 Cape Cod Times' ^"'Times Capsule" winners - Jade G <br /> uashnet Valley School, Grade ; Megan reicher, Quashnet River School, <br /> Grade 6- Both of these students won third place in the essay contest "Life <br /> in the Year 2050" sponsored by the Cape Cod Times and won a $25.00 gift <br /> certificate to the Cape Cod Niall. <br /> 4.3 1 lashpee Commun koncert Committee Donations - The MCC <br /> ale donations to under rite the costs of the following activities at the <br /> iashpee elementary schools: <br /> • Admission and transportation to the Museum of Fine Arts in <br /> Boston ($2; 00 . <br /> • `Artist in idncy" program, a two-weer on-site program, <br /> produced by the Massachusetts Cultural council ($4,000). <br /> Vi. Communications firs. Lynch noted correspondence received from. Finance Committee <br /> liaison Dean Arden regarding Mashpe 's recent financial history. <br /> Also, Mrs. Lynch noted correspondence from Education commissioner <br /> David Driscoll noting Denise Fronius', Coombs School Interim Principal, <br /> first-gear waiver in that position. <br /> VI, student Advisory Student Advisory Council representative, Chris Maguire, noted the <br /> Council following high school activities: <br /> Seniors held their annual Christmas tree sale; Juniors participate in "Java <br /> with the Juniors" where there is a open mike session to recite poetry and <br /> sing; and the SQphomores held their Giant Stocking raffle; the Grade 7/8 <br /> Winter concert will be held on January ; printer sports began and the <br />
