f <br /> 4 <br /> JOINT T MEETING , <br /> SCHOOL COMMITTEE, BOARD OF SELECTMEN AND FINANCE COMMITTEE <br /> FEBRUARY Y ' , 2000 <br /> Mini <br /> Attendees: School committee -- Chairwoman Kathleen Lynch, Maryanne Ma d na'Id, <br /> Theresa Cooly, and Stephen Paxton. Janice Mills was absent this evening. Also in <br /> attendance were Superintendent of Schools Sherwood Fluery and Business <br /> Administrator Fuss Mc r wn. <br /> Board of Selectmen - Chairman Kenneth Mar t rs, David i Leveille, Wayne Taylor, John <br /> a.halan , and Frederick Blythe. Also in attendance was Town Administrator Robert <br /> whriten ur. <br /> Finance Committee - Chairman Dean Arden, Nancy Jo G ulart, Steve Cashman, .Jaynes <br /> Morgan, and Jeff Arnold. Absent were Sidney Golub and Charles Sheehan. <br /> Mrs. Lynch called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. in the Selectmen's meeting room at <br /> Town Mall. <br /> Tonight's joint meeting was called to discuss the FY001 school budget. This was the <br /> first joint meeting of the year to discuss next year's school budget. Mr. Flu ry <br /> discussed the budget including teacher salaries, the addition of new staff, special <br /> education services, bus transportation, expenses and_ upgrading of the elementary <br /> school technology. <br /> Mrs. Lynch said the primary reason for the increases are the ever-growing high school <br /> enrollments. Although system-wide enrollment figures are leveling off, the current <br /> gravies with the largest numbers will be entering the high school in coning years. Mrs. <br /> Lyne said per pupil costs at the high school level are higher than at the elementary <br /> level thus high school costs will continue to increase. <br /> The Selectmen and Finance' Committee questioned the School Committee regarding the <br /> bus contract which expires at the end of this school year and the cost of grounds <br /> maintenance. <br /> Mr. Arden Pointed out that last year's use of free cash reserve funding to support the <br /> school budget cannot be repeated next year. <br /> It was agreed to meeting again on Wednesday, March 1, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. <br /> Motion made by M .
