JOINT MEETING <br /> SCHOOL COMMITTEE, BOARD OF SELECTMEN AND FINANCE COMMITTEE <br /> MARCH 1, Zoo <br /> Minute <br /> Attendees: School Committee - Chairwoman Kathleen Lynch, Maryanne Macdonald and <br /> Theresa .Cook. Absent were Janice Mills and Stephen Paxton. Also in attendance were <br /> Superintendent of Schools Sherwood Flu ry and Business Administrator buss McCown. <br /> Boar oSelectmen - Chairman Kenneth Marst rs, David Leveille, Frederick Edythe, John <br /> ahalan , and Wayne Taylor. Also in attendance was Town Administrator Robert whritenour, <br /> Jr. <br /> Finance Committee - Chairman Dean Arden, Nancy Jo Goulart, Jeffry Arnold, and Jams <br /> Morgan. Absent were Steve Cashman, Sid Golub, and Charles Sheehan. <br /> Mrs. Lynch called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. in the Selectmen's meeting room in Town <br /> Hall. . <br /> This was the second joint meeting called among the School Committee, Board of Selectmen and <br /> Finance Committee to discuss the Fo 1 school department's budget. <br /> After reviewing the entire town's budget-along with the proposed school budget, Mr. whritenour <br /> recommended budget figure of$13,800,000 for the school. The school department had <br /> previously proposed a budget of $14,350,000, therefore, with the Selectmen's recommendation <br /> of$13,500,000, the school department was r qu st d'to make budget cuts totaling $550,000. <br /> Discussion followed on the recently negotiated teachers' contract stemming from Mr. Arden's <br /> comment on the teachers' "generous salary increase." Mrs. Lynch said liaisons from the <br /> Selectmen and Finance Committee were invited to the negotiations sessions but did not attend <br /> any of them. <br /> More questions followed regarding special education, bus transportation costs and costs <br /> regarding new positions. Special Education Director Grace Day responded to questions posed <br /> by the Finance Committee and Selectmen. Mr. Flu ry noted new positions will cost <br /> approximately $680,000; the bids of the current bus contract will be opened on March 14th. <br /> Another joint meeting was slated for Monday, March 20, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. in which the <br /> school department will outline specific budget cuts in order to reach the $13,800,000 figure. <br /> Motion made by Ms. Macdonald, seconded by Mrs. Cook, to adjourn the joint meeting at :02 <br /> .m. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Marjorie Bevacq a <br /> School Committee Secretary <br />
