TOWN OF MASHPEE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT COMMITTEE MINUTES
MAY 13, 2010
Present: Bob/Bev Wooldridge, Charles Maintanis, Maria Hortaridis, Trish Parolski, Bill Dundon,
Mert Sapers. Late AiTival: Terrie Cook. Absent: Marilyn Farren.
Also: Tom.Fudala, Town Planner.
The meeting was called to order at 2:1 OPM in Room 3.
Minutes: The Minutes of March 11, 2010 were moved by Trish, seconded by Mert.
Unanimous.
Rea ointments and Reor ani ation: Please send Bob a note by the 21"if you do not want to
continue on the Board.. We will wait until the July meeting to cover reorganization. Terrie
expressed her interest in keeping her appointment with ADA.
Beach Access Fund: We have aground$300 to date. Terrie is checking with Cape Cod 5 Bank
and Rockland Trust. We have not heard back from Melinda Gallant, Talanian, and Roche Bros.
Roche Bros. is waiting to hear back from Corporate. The Women's Club donated$109 from a
50/50 raffle.
Planning De artment Accessibft Rg ort: Tom Fudala and Marilyn Farren worked on this
Report, `Seven-Year Action Plan' (pp 9-1 through 9-14.) Tom distributed a copy to each Board
member. The draft form was reviewed, and is there anything to add? Bob suggested they add in
Town facilities and areas that have access and those needing to be corrected and made accessible
with target dates. Also, include the beaches at ponds and parks that need accessible equipment.
The final copy will be sent to the State. Self-evaluation is required every five years. This serves
as a Plan and recommendation to the Town, which is Town endorsed. We can follow up with
DPW to add improvements. It was noted there are no paved spaces at the conservation areas,
such as Camp VinHaven, Pickeral Cove, and Great Neck Road South needs to have a trail made
down to the Mashpee River. Perhaps, we can use compacted sand. Charlie noted that paths in
governmental facilities are required to be accessible under Title 2 after 1992. Maria asked if the
school had to put together an action plan to be in compliance with Title 2 after 1992. Charlie said
yes.
Preservation money was used to purchase Camp Vin Haven, and it is now a conservation area.
DPW performs the work under the authorization of Cons Com. Leisure Services gets involved
with urban self help grants. Bob will talk with Gus Frederick about this. Also, Bob will find out
who is on the Leisure Service Council, and try to review equipment, such as the beach
wheelchair. Would beach access be eligible under park funding? We need to check with Gus
(LS) and Catherine(DPW) on deadlines. Reimbursement comes after the project is completed,
and the Town pays half the expense.
