JOINT MEETING <br /> SCHOOL COMMITTEE, HOAR of SELECTMEN AND FINANCE COMMITTEE <br /> iITT <br /> MARCH 20, 2000 <br /> y <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees: School Committee - Chair ox an Kathleen. Lynch, Janice Mills, 'Theresa <br /> Cook, and Stephen Paxton. Maryanne Macdonald was absent. Also in attendance were <br /> Superintendent of Schools Sherwood Fluory and business Administrator Russ McCown. <br /> Board of Selectmen - Chairman Kenneth 1 larsters, David Leveill , Fred Blythe, John <br /> ah l n , and Wayne Taylor. Also in attendance was Town Administrator r F ob rt <br /> whritenour. <br /> Finance Committee - Chairman Dean Arden, Nancy Jo Goulart, James Morgan, and <br /> Jeffry Arnold. Absent were Steve Cashman, Sidney Golub, and Charles Sheehan. <br /> The joint meting was called to order by Mr. Marsters for the Selectmen and Mrs. Lynch <br /> for the School Committee at 7-00 p.m. in the Town Hall Selectmen's Meeting Evora. <br /> Tonight's meeting was the third joint meeting called to discuss the school department's <br /> FYo 1 budget. Mr. whritenour introduced Mr. Flu ry who began his presentation by <br /> thanking the Selectmen for declaring 'Thursday, March 23, 2000 s "Falcon Day." A <br /> ceremony will be held on 'Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in the high school gymnasium. <br /> Mr. Fluory explained that at their regular meeting of March 15, 2000 the School <br /> Committee approved an F o J budget of 14,13 1,000. This figure reflects a reduction of <br /> $219,000 broken down as follows: <br /> Transportation $100)000 Bid savings <br /> Special Education o,000 Expenditures towards first quarter <br /> payments for FYo 1 <br /> Non-returning teachers 157000 No impact <br /> Secretarial savings: <br /> Reorganization 1 }000 one secretarial position through <br /> attrition <br /> $2193,000 <br /> After much discussion and questions asked by both the Selectmen and Finance <br /> Committee, a motion was made by Mr. Blythe, seconded by Mr. Cahalane, to <br /> recommend $1 ,o o,o0o as the F o 1. school department budget figure. <br /> Mrs. Lynch noted that the proposed "Possible Budget Reductions, FYo 1" does not <br /> necessarily reflect the recommendations by the School Committee. Also, she mentioned <br /> the figure in the Omnibus budget under "School," "FY2001 Dept t F equest" is incorrect <br /> ($13,800,000) and should read instead "$14,075',000." <br /> Discussion then followed on the duties ofcurriculum chairpersons. <br /> Mr. Cahalane withdrew his second of the above motion. Mr. Blythe withdrew his <br /> motion. <br />
