*r <br /> MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br /> SPECIAL MEETING <br /> FEBRUARY Y 1,2001 <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees: Chairperson Janice Mills, Theresa Cook, DonnaJean Lopez, Kathleen Lynch. Ben Caswell <br /> arrived at 6:45 p.m. Also in attendance were Superintendent of Schools Sherwood Fluery and Business <br /> Administrator Russ Mown. <br /> Mrs.Mills called the special meeting to order at 6:37 p.m. in the Quashn t School Library. <br /> First item on the agenda was the relocation of the busses for First Student. Representatives from First <br /> Student, Heather f otchian and Jim Quinlan, attended the meeting to address this issue. The Committee <br /> was informed that there are currently two "very viable locations in Mashp e." However, these locations <br /> need to be cleared with the Zoning Department. Mrs. I otchian will speak with Building Inspector buss <br /> Wheeler tomorrow regarding this issue,however,there is a need for a short-term location from February 1 <br /> until the Building Department has placed this issue on their agenda. Mrs. I otchian and Mr. Quinlan <br /> indicated this hearing would not occur until March. <br /> After more discussion, a motion was made by Mrs. Lynch and seconded by Mrs. Cook to allow First <br /> Student house their busses out of Mashpee from February 16 until April 16 pending legal review. Mr. <br /> Fluery said he will obtain a legal opinion prior to the February 6h regular School Committee meting. <br /> After more discussion,the motion and seconded were rescinded. <br /> Mr. Fluery then discussed the Capital Improvement meeting results held on January 2 , 2001. The CIP <br /> committee voted on the following FY02 requests as submitted by the School Committee: <br /> Coombs School Parting Lot - S 253000 <br /> Quashnet Front walk&Curbs - 50,000 <br /> Special Education Van - $ 4000 <br /> Personal Computers(Year 1) - $100,000 <br /> TOTAL 15,000 <br /> Mr. Fluery said the FY2002 proposal budget total is $15,450,366 which includes reductions of the <br /> following: ai l: World Language A Latin, 1.2 S'anish — 1. ,$25,596;Nursing Assistant .5 - <br /> $9,95 ; Receptionist 0.4 - $7,960; Life Skills Special Education/work Coordinator 1.0 - $21,330; <br /> Special Education Chair 0.5 - $5,000; Special Education Assistant 0.5 - $5,700; Personnel 0.5 - <br /> $9,950; Maintenance .5 -$15,500. <br /> Discussion followed regarding the nursing assistant position. These positions are through grants and when <br /> the grant expires the school department will not continue for three years. working conditions will not <br /> change. <br /> Mrs. Lynch suggested creating a grant writing position. <br /> Mr. Fluery stand natural gas costs will increase approximately$46,000 from this ear's budget. <br /> After more discussion on the FY02 budget, a motion was matte by Mr. Caswell, seconded by Mrs. Cook, <br /> to present a budget in the amount of$15,636,181 to the Selectmen at the February 5,2001 meeting. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> 4 <br />
