MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE—REGULAR MEETING—OCTOBER 3,2001 PAGE 6 <br /> 11.2.3 Safe Transportation Task Force—A number of parents were <br /> present at the last meeting to discuss concerns relative to bus routes. <br /> School Principals will be requested to emphasize in their newsletter,the <br /> importance of National School Bus Safety Week. <br /> 11.2.4 Affirmative Action Committee—The sixth grade class is <br /> presently writing an essay regarding"No Place for Hate." A diversity <br /> group at the high school is expected to schedule an ice cream social for <br /> the students who have participated in the essay. Minority recruitment <br /> was discussed as was community advocacy in support of recruitment. <br /> 11.2.5 Boosters Club—New officers have been elected to the <br /> Boosters Club. The first home football tette is this weekend. The club <br /> will also participate in the Oktoberfest weekend at Mashpce Commons. <br /> 11.2.6 School Lunch Committee—The school lunch committee will <br /> meet to discuss menus and the importance of offering additional <br /> healthy choice meals to the students. <br /> 11.2.7 Indian Education—The high school in conjunction with the <br /> Mashpee Wampanoag Indian Education Committee is presently <br /> working on annual performance reports related to DOE funding. It was <br /> noted that the Superintendent was in receipt of a memo from Joan <br /> Avant Tavares relative to concerns related to the high school. The <br /> matter would be appropriately addressed by the Superintendent. <br /> 11.2.8 Health Advisory Committee—The first meeting is scheduled <br /> on Tuesday,October 9,2001 at the Quashuet School Library from 6:00 <br /> p.m,to 8:00 p.m. <br /> XII. Other The School Committee agreed to address with Marcia King,the need to <br /> pursue grant funding to employ the services of a resource officer to <br /> assist with violence prevention in the schools. <br /> The Independence House Council meets every Monday in room B226 <br /> at the Mashpee Haigh School. <br /> The use of two-way radio communication was discussed as were the <br /> use of cell phones. The use of two-way radio communication was <br /> deemed the fastest response in a disruptive and/or crisis situation. <br /> Administrators utilize the two-way radio communication system. It <br /> was noted that cellular phones are available to the first tie of <br /> administrators. They are also offered to athletic directors and are <br /> available for staff use during field trips. They are also expected to be <br /> made available to assistant principals. The School Committee agreed <br /> to address the issue of obtaining additional cellular phones for <br /> administration use in the lower grade levels. <br /> Mrs.Mills distributed information to the Committee relative to"Roles <br /> and Responsibilities for School Committee's and Superintendent's"for <br /> review. The next scheduled meeting of the MASC is November 14, <br /> 2001. <br />
