�, <br /> MA S HPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br /> SPECIAL MEETING <br /> FEBRUARY 12,2002 <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees: Chairwoman Theresa Cook, Ben Caswell, Mollie Reis, and Janice Mills. Peter Thomas was <br /> unable to attend. Also in attendance were Superintendent of Schools Sherwood Fluery and Business <br /> Administrator Michael Tarlow. <br /> Mrs.Cook called the special meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. in the Quashnet School Library. <br /> 1. Call Meeting to Order - Tonight's meeting focused on financial issues currently ongoing in the <br /> school department. <br /> . School Committee Liaison to Leisure Services Advisory Council Appointment — Reid <br /> iberdy—To be discussed later in the meeting. <br /> . Business Administrator's Monthly Report—In his monthly report, Mr. Tarlow said the payroll <br /> budget has had a comprehensive review and projected out through the end of the fiscal year. <br /> Overall there are sufficient funds to cover all payroll accounts; however, the substitute accounts <br /> are projected to be in significant deficit. Transfers of available money within the payroll account <br /> will address this problem. <br /> Also,the special education out-of-district tuition deficit continues to grow. A deficit of$263,000 <br /> has been projected but additional data is forthcoming from the special education office. <br /> MUNIS contract has been finalized and the first meeting is slated for March 7,`. <br /> Mr. Tarlow has had preliminary discussions with the Town Treasurer regarding the future of the <br /> payroll processing. The Toon Treasurer is looping for way to reduce the payroll processing costs <br /> and options are being discussed for processing payroll until the M J IS payroll is implemented <br /> next.January <br /> . Lunch Report Update — January flog — Mr. 'Tarlow said in January 2002 the school lunch <br /> program showed a profit of $18,522. Last year, under Chartwell s" contract, the food service <br /> program showed a deficit of$7,887. <br /> . FY02 Budget—Mr. Tarlow discussed the FY02 F02budget under his monthly report. <br /> y <br /> Mrs. Cook asked to have the FYO 1 expense column on the Summary Sheet. Mr. Tarlow will add <br /> this to the next printout. <br /> . FY03 Budget Considerations -- Mrs. Bills addressed an issue that was raised by the Student <br /> Advisory Council Representative, Kyle Dunt, at the February 6h regular meeting where h <br /> expressed concern regarding elimination of the Advanced Placement courses. Mrs. Mills <br /> reassured thea is no Plan to eliminate such courses at this point. <br /> Due to the discussions held with the Selectmen and Finance Committee on February I Vh <br /> discussion followed regarding FY03 budget cuts. At that meeting, the Selectmen and Finance <br /> Committee asked the school department cut $1,500,000 from their FY03 budget. As a <br /> compromise,the School Committee asked school officials to male$700,000 in cuts for next year. <br />
