i <br /> MA HPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE—SPECIAL AND JOINT MEETING WITH PAGE <br /> THE BOARD OF SELECTMEN AND FINANCE COMMITTEE <br /> i - The Committee took a recess at : o p. . <br /> The joint meeting with the Board of Selectmen and Finance Committee convened at 6:02 p.m. in the <br /> Selectmen's Meeting Room. <br /> Attendees: <br /> school Committee - Chairwoman Theresa Cook, Mollie Reis, Ben Caswell, and Janice Mills. Peter <br /> Thomas was unable to attend. Also in attendance were Superintendent ofSchools Sherwood Fluery and <br /> Business Administrator Michael Tarl w. <br /> Board of Selectmen—Chairman John Cahalane., Kenneth Mar t rs,David Le eille, and George " heli " <br /> Green. Wayne Taylor was absent this evening. <br /> Finance Committee — Chairman Jeffry Arnold, Dean Arden, Kathleen Lynch, Carlton Meredith, and <br /> Frederic Blythe. James Morgan was absent this evening. <br /> The three above-named committees met for the second time during the budget season to discuss the school <br /> department's FY03 budget. Mrs. Mason's budget recommendation is $15,880,000 which allows for <br /> $500,000 in salary contract obligations; however, s NIS-. Flu ry has previously stated, contract obligations <br /> total$1,100,000. Also,there special education out-of-district tuition costs of$230,000. <br /> After much discussion which included possibly deferring the GIP until October 2002 to tapping the <br /> stabilization account in order to assist the school department's needs to cutting other departments' budgets, <br /> the Finance Committ e said they voted a figure of S 16,472,000 for the school department. <br /> Mr.Fluery said the school administrators have already cut$692,000 from the initial budget of$17,490,000 <br /> down to$16,800,000. Mrs. Cook said the School Committee has not voted to accept the revised budget. <br /> After more than ars hour of discussion, the three committees decided to schedule another joint meeting for <br /> Monday,March 1 ,2002 at 6:00 p.m.. <br /> Motion made by Mr.Caswell,seconded by Mrs. Mills,to adj urn the special joint meeting at 7:1 p.m. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Marjorie R.
