I .. <br /> MASHFEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE L'E-REGULAR M ETfNG-OCTOBER , 2004 PAGE <br /> .3 Enrollments Mrs. Parolski summarized the revised October 17 <br /> 2004 enrollments as follows: Coombs School — 476; Quashnet School — <br /> 7; and Maslipee High School 1,020. Also there are currently 43 Maslipee <br /> students attending Cape Cod Tech. <br /> .4 Out-of-School Suspensions — The month of September 2004 <br /> reflected the following out-of-school suspensions: Grade 7, 0; Grade <br /> Grade 9, ; Grade 10, 3; Grade 11.1 1; and Grade 12, 3. <br /> 8.5 MCAS Results — Joy Blackwood and Ann... English — hath <br /> Coordinator Mrs. Blackwood and English/Language Arts Coordinator Ann <br /> English gave ars overview oftheir respective results of the MCAS tests that <br /> were administered during the 2003-2004 school year. <br /> Mrs. Blackwood said MCAS test results indicate "very steady progress" i <br /> math. All students will be required to be "Proficient"' in math by 2014. <br /> Mrs. Blackwood reported the following improvements in failure percentages <br /> since the tests were first administered in 1998: <br /> Grade 1998 2004 <br /> Grade 4 26% failed % failed <br /> Grade 6 31% failed 16% failed <br /> Grade 8 42% failed 31%failed <br /> Grade 10 54% failed 9% failed <br /> Mrs. Blackwood and Mrs. English have met with grade level teachers, <br /> special education teachers, they have made ire-depth investigations at tete <br /> tests, and have reviewed curriculum frameworks. She said all students in <br /> grades 3-8 will be taping MCAS tests. Also, there was ars inf n-nati nal <br /> MCAS parent meeting held on October 0'. <br /> Mrs. English reported on the English/Language Arts test scores stating there <br /> has been a small but steady decline in reading scores sine the test was <br /> implemented. Although the test was more difficult for the state overall, <br /> Mashpee paralleled the state on every standard. The state averages went <br /> down in nine standards as did llaslipee's, however, Mashpee had sharper <br /> f declines in most areas. The state improved in four areas as dict Maslipee. <br /> Our increases were very similar to the state's. Mrs. English said Grade <br /> had a slight decline in "Proficient"'but ars increase in students scoring in the <br /> "Advanced" level. Overall, Grade 10 made gains with 4% of the students <br /> scoring in "Proficient" or above to the state's 3%. Eight percent of the <br /> students will retake the exam this fall. <br /> 8.6 Advanced Studies and Leadership Program —Mrs. Parolsl i outlined <br /> this program that is provided for high achieving students from the Cape Cod <br /> Collaborative districts. It is a four-week program "'college-file residential <br /> experience that emphasizes leadership development and project-orient d <br /> instruction in STEM areas and the humanities;" She said there are six slots <br />
