MASHPEE SCHOOL COMM ITTEE—REG ULAR MEETING EB RUARY 1, 2006 PAGE <br /> After much discussion, a motion was made by Mrs. Lynch, seconded by Mr. <br /> Thomas, to increase the FY07 school department budget by 5.4% over'the <br /> budget totaling $18,755,184. <br /> VO'T'E: Unanimous <br /> Discussion then following on two proposed articles for the May 2006 Town Meeting <br /> Warrant. <br /> .9 Cape Cod Collaborative Minority Recruitment Service — Mrs. Bradshaw <br /> explained the Collaborative will be coordinating a minority recruitment service that <br /> will b'e placing ails in state-wide newspapers and online in monst r. om. This <br /> service has cost $ , o since 1999. In response to assistance to split the pay among <br /> the towns within the Collaborative, a request of approximately $200 will- b <br /> Mashp 's share. <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Lynch, seconded by Mr. Thomas,to participate. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> 8.10 Janus 1 2006 In-Service Iia —Mrs. Bradshaw described this successful <br /> day for staff who attended 20 different workshops which h included Reading Street for <br /> elementary teachers; de-escalating difficult situations for high school teachers with <br /> assistance from Sean Cahill and Steve MacAleese from the Sheriffs Department; <br /> special education paraprofessionals attended trainings on de-escalation,, inclusion, <br /> and.learning disabilities. <br /> 8.11 lid-Cycle Review — Jame Be.audin — Mrs. B audin explained this sax-year <br /> process where the Department -of Education comes in mid-way through the cycle <br /> and examines fibs including civil rights, numbers of students, etc. The Department <br /> of Education comes to 1lashp ee to determine the effectiveness of our activities to <br /> rectify any compliance issues. The Mid-Cycle review includes the following: <br /> . Review Mashpc's Corrective Action Plan <br /> b. Prepare documentation,as listed in index <br /> • Six special education criteria <br /> • One civil rights (MOA) criteria disproportionality <br /> English Language Education ELE assessment <br /> C. Student records review—number and types of'records to b <br /> determined by IE <br /> Ix. Specifically Assigned/ There were no items under this agenda topic for discussion. <br /> Unfinished Business <br /> X. New gusiness Mr. Noche requested the purchase of two special education vans totaling <br /> 1,243. They will be paid for from circuit breaker funds. <br />
