The School Committee believes that school attendance is critical
to student achievement. As a result, we strongly discourage the
taking of family vacations when school is in session. We believe
this to be detrimental to your child's progress. In situations where
a vacation must be taken when school is in session, we ask that the
school principal be notified. Our experience has shown that
providing assignments to be done during a vacation is not
productive. Such schoolwork undermines the quality of the
vacation, and is generally not a productive educational exercise.
For this reason, we do not require teachers to design any out of
school activities for students while on vacation. Students are held
accountable to make up any schoolwork missed when they return.
Mr. Bailey made a notion to accept the school committee
statement on consistent attendance, seconded by Mr. Marcelli.
VOTE: Unanimous
Mrs. Mills suggested having the statement sera home to students,
published in a press release, distributed at open house, and have put
into future handbooks.
9.4 Revised Public Forum Guidelines- Mr. Marcelli made a
motion, seconded by Mrs. Mills to accept the revised public forum
guidelines with the following revisions:
Add to the form the wording; 'the public comment period is
limited to twenty minutes.' Eliminate the wording 'unless more
time is requested'. Eliminate the form labeled page 55 in the
Committee packet and use the form labeled page 54.
VOTE: Unanimous
9.5 Policy Revisions- Mrs. trills made a motion, seconded by Mr.
Bailey, to accept the revised pregnancy policy FE with the
revision on page 2 to react 'Mashpee Public Schools do'.
VOTE: [unanimous
Mrs. Mills made a motion, seconded by Mr. Marcelli to accept
the revised policy JEE -I .
VOTE: Unanimous
Mr. Marcelli discussed that due to Paragraph 2 of Policy JD-F ,
the Mashpee High School Handbook would need to be changed to
reflect this Policy.
School Committee Regular Meeting 915107
