I <br /> 1 IASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br /> BUDGET MEETING <br /> November 27, 2007 <br /> Minutes <br /> Present at the meeting were MaryF se Grady, Ralph Mar elli, Kathy Stanley, Janice <br /> Mills, Richard Bailey, Ann Bradshaw, Patricia Lugo, Terrie Cook,, and Chuck Gasi r. <br /> Mgrs. Grady called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. in the Superintendent's Office. <br /> There was discussion about staffing for Title One Students. <br /> There was discussion regarding 23 paraprofessional positions at the Kenneth C. Coombs <br /> School. Mrs. Bradshaw explained that paraprofessionals are used for Kindergarten and <br /> the remainder are for Special Education students. <br /> There was discussion about having autistic students attend programs through the Cape <br /> Cod Collaborative, and how cost effective this would be. Mrs. Bradshaw explained that <br /> the Collaborative i often the next step for students and instead the schools try to keep <br /> these students in the lust restrictive environment. Mrs. Grady inquired about <br /> reimbursement for Collaborative students. There was discussion about eliminating/or <br /> combining paraprofessional positions to hire more special education teachers. <br /> There was discussion about Team Chair positions and the consistency of this position. <br /> Mrs. Mills stressed that the Committee will not tape positions from the classroom but <br /> need to loop at administrative positions. She suggested that a level of administration <br /> night be able to be removed if children were sent to the Collaborative. <br /> Mrs. Bradshaw reminded the Committee that the Assistant Special Education Director <br /> position and the Assistant Principal position at the Combs School were not new <br /> positions but were swaps for other positions. <br /> Mr. Bailey suggested that if positions are eliminated their the work that goes along with <br /> those positions must be eliminated as well. Mrs. Bradshaw stated that clue to regulations, <br /> special education work could not be eliminated. <br /> Mr. Mar elli discussed eliminating paraprofessional positions at the Coombs School and <br /> replacing those positions with teaching positions. There was also discussion about the <br /> science teaching position at the Quashnet School. Mr. Mar elli expressed concern that <br /> science is only taught as a special one a week.
