r <br /> Short Answer Tests <br /> A teacher's primary purpose <br /> in giving a short-answer test is to test whether you have a foundation of knowing the material, usually factual. <br /> Prepare for the test <br /> Develop summary sheets of the course material information. <br /> Focus on key words,events,vocabulary,concepts <br /> Organize and categorize the material,then review <br /> When taking the test <br /> Respond directly to the question or directive <br /> Focus on keywords and ideas called for <br /> Eliminate those that do not directly address the information requested in the test item <br /> Respond and write concise answers <br /> Connect key facts into short sentences according to the test instructions <br /> Test Anxiety <br /> Students may experience anxiety about tests and may experience heightened anxiety before a testing situation.A <br /> certain degree of test anxiety is normal and may help students prepare more effectively,work more efficiently, <br /> and remain focused during testing.Too much anxiety, however,can negatively affect performance.The following <br /> strategies may assist students, parents,and teachers in reducing test anxiety. <br /> Student Strategies for Reducing Test Anxiety <br /> • Share your feelings of anxiety with parents and teachers. <br /> • Think of the test as an opportunity to show what you know. <br /> • Review homework and materials which pertain to the test topics. <br /> • Relax,breathe deeply and stay focused on the test. <br /> • Remember the test is only one way your academic performance is measured. <br /> Types of Questions Used on MCAS TESTS <br /> + Multiple-choice questions are included on all MCAS tests and require students to select the correct <br /> answer from a list of for options. Responses to multiple-choice questions are machine scored <br /> • Short-answer questions are included only on Mathematics tests and require students to generate a brief <br /> response,usually a numerical solution or a brief statement. Responses to short-answer questions are <br /> scored on a scale of 0—1 points. <br /> • Short-response questions are included only on the ELA test and require students to generate a brief <br /> response to a reading comprehension question.
