Curriculum Sub-Committee Meeting Minutes <br /> March 14, 2011 <br /> Present: Debra Goulart, Kathy Stanley, Sheila Arnold, Jane Day, Lindsey Kett <br /> Meeting began at 3:00. Item number four(Mashpee Middle School Course Offerings) <br /> was discussed first. <br /> Ms. Arnold presented the 7`h and 8`h grade proposed Program of Studies. She noted that <br /> in grade 7, a full year of ELA, Social Studies, Science, and Math would be required with <br /> an elective available for students. Those students who are taking Math 7 (versus <br /> accelerated math) would be required to take Math Exploration for half of the year as part <br /> of their elective. <br /> In grade 8 students would be required to take ELA, World History, Science, and Math <br /> and select French, Spanish, or Technology/Engineering for a high school credit if desired. <br /> Both 7`h and 8`h grade students will take a half year each of Physical Education and <br /> Health. <br /> Ms. Arnold concluded her presentation at 3:40 at which time Ms. Day and Ms. Kett came <br /> in to talk about item number one. Ms. Kett introduced the Program of Studies changes, <br /> which included the following additions: Engineering the Future, Marketing and <br /> Entrepreneurship, Fashion II, Spanish IV CP, and Race and Ethnic Relations. Deleted <br /> courses are Introduction to Business Concepts, Marketing(this is the new Marketing and <br /> Entrepreneurship course), Art and Artisan, Art and Humanity, Sculpture, Latin I-IV, <br /> African-American History, History of Mashpee, Native North American, and Business <br /> Math (which is now Office Accounting). <br /> Ms. Day commented that Mr. Hyde was opposed to losing the course History of <br /> Mashpee,but assured the subcommittee that the course would retain features of that <br /> course. Ms. Stanley asked if it was possible to include the Mashpee reference in the <br /> course description. Ms. Kett said she would take care of that right away and email the <br /> new course description to the subcommittee members. <br /> Ms. Stanley also wanted to know if the new books for the Engineering the Future course <br /> were new to the course. Ms. Kett stated she would find that out as well and include the <br /> information in her email response. <br /> The Program of Studies evening is being held on March 15, 2011 at Mashpee High <br /> School beginning at 6:00. <br /> The meeting concluded at 4:10. <br /> Respectfully submi d, <br /> Deb Goulart <br />
