i <br /> MANCE COMMITTEE Raw AND RECOMMENDATIONS <br /> SPECIAL TOWN MEETING AR'T'ICLES. <br /> Mr. Golub noted the changes in the following Special Town Meeting Articles. <br /> Article : Police Contract <br /> The amount has been raised from$135,000 to$137,000. <br /> Article 4: Fiore Contract <br /> The amount has been raised from$1491,000 to$152,000. <br /> Discussion of Police and Fire Contracts: <br /> Mr. Coggin stated that he would like to revisit the Special Town Meeting Articles 3 and 4. <br /> Mr. Goggin noted that he firmly believes that those two articles should be approved. These <br /> Articles would be bringing the salaries of the Police and Fire to an average level which he <br /> feels is a level where this town should b . <br /> Mr. Golub commented that he feels the Police and the Firefighters of this town should <br /> certainly receive adequate compensation. Mr. Golub stated that we have the desire and the <br /> strong feeling that this is the right thing to do. However,the financial resources are not <br /> there, Mr. Golub stated that he is against excessive spending. <br /> Motion to Reconsider Article <br /> Motion made by Mr. Goggin to reconsider Article 3. <br /> Second by Mrs. Goulart. <br /> Approved:Mr. Coggin,Mrs. Coulart,Mr. Cleary,Mr. Gallo,Mr. Iumin. <br /> Opposed: Mr. Golub,Mr. Watt. <br /> Vote: 5 Approved/2 Opposed. <br /> Motion Approved. <br /> Mr. Nutt commented that he does not see the Police and Firefighters as being underpaid. He <br /> noted that this is going to be a very difficult year and we could be facing severe cuts. He <br /> noted the School Budget and whether the School can perform with their budget. He does not <br /> see the need for 17-1/2%raises to the Police. Mrs. Goulart questioned if they could itemize <br /> the 17-1/2%increase over the number of gears. Mr. Golub noted that it is a 17-1/2%increase <br /> spread out over three years. <br /> Mr. Golub noted that everyone is trying to stay at 11%increases. He stated that the Finance <br /> Committee took a position in front of every school negotiating union contract and they all <br /> bought into the position that the town has to stay at 11%. Mr. Golub stated that he feels the <br /> .Finance Committee should be consistent. <br /> Mr. Kum-in noted that he feels that both the Police and Fire Departments should get the raises <br /> that have been recommended by the Arbitrators. <br /> Mr. teary noted that the Finance Committee needs to watch over and determine whether the <br /> town can afford it or cannot afford it. <br />
