BUDGET REVIEW:
Mr. Oreg..Taylor,Director,D.P.W., reviewed the D.P.W.budget request for F9.
Mr. Taylor noted that the Department of Public works comprises approximately %of the
annual municipal spending. The budget., as submitted this year, beyond the change in
personnel, includes an increase in salary related to contractual agreements from F1198 o
approximately 3.1%-,and,as submitted, the department requests on the expense side are
2-1/2%
Mr. Taylor stated than in addition to those to numbers, there is a request to add a Town
Engineering position within the Department of Public Works. He stated that he initially put
this position in the budget for the full fiscal year. Upon discussions and in reviewing the
budget with the Board of Selectmen, it has been agreed to look at only funding that position
during the second half of the year. Mr.Taylor noted that the engineering position was
originally approved at Town Meeting about eight years ago. Mr.Taylor stated that there is a
very strong need for a Town Engineer--it would be very helpful to many of the departments.
