Mashpee Finance Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> Tuesday,February 23, 1999 <br /> Present: Chairwoman Nancy Goulart <br /> Steve Cashman, Sidney Golub,Mike Kumin,Alec watt <br /> Absent: Dean Amen <br /> Also George Baker,Mashpee Fire Chief <br /> Present: Cobert whtenour,Town Administrator <br /> Diane Rommelmeyer,Town Accountant <br /> Board of Selectmen:Ken M rsters,David Le ellle,,Wayne Taylor,and Nancy Caffyn <br /> Meeting Called to Order by Chairwoman Goulart at :10 p.m. at the Mashpee Town FIail, <br /> Meeting Room ,on Tuesday,February 23, 1999. <br /> BUDGET REVIEW- GEORGE BAKES FIRE CHIEF: <br /> Mr. George Baker,Mashpee Fire Chief,was present to discuss his Fiscal Year 2000 Budget. <br /> .egest. <br /> Mr. Baker began his presentation with the review of the Mashpee Fire&Rescue Department <br /> Mission Statement; <br /> The Mission of the Mashpee Fire&Rescue Department ent is <br /> to minimize loss and,suffering within our community. <br /> We accomplish this by aion, training and the mitigation <br /> of emerga'ncyincidents within the limit of available resources. <br /> Mr.Baker stated that the Deputy-Chief has a lotto do-with putting the budget together-_ <br /> putting the numbers in order and doing the spreadsheets. The Lieutenants participate with a <br /> lot of input, as well as getting input-from the Fire Fighters on the shifts. <br /> Iii.Baker reviewed last year's issues which affected the budct as follows: <br /> Their re aft minimum through contractual negotiations went to four persons. <br /> The National and OSHA Standard is to have at least four persons assembled before <br /> you enter a hazardous atmosphere—two to,stay in and two to stay out. <br /> They saw an %increase in responses. <br /> Two new fire-fighters-startcd January-I --one has training and one is-scheduled <br /> for training. <br /> New pumper from the CJ.P. last year has been ordered- Chief Baker noted that <br /> there will be an Article on Special Town Meeting because when it was budgeted <br /> last year,they forgot to add a special article to authorize the Treasurer to do <br /> temporary and long-term.borrowing--they appropriated the money but never <br /> authorized to borrow the money. <br />
