4 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> January 22, 2018 <br /> NEW BUSINESS <br /> Review and Approval of Special Event: Annual Ra rear Cgpe Cod Relay—Ma 11 & 12 2018: <br /> The Board of Selectmen reviewed the Special Event Application for the Annual Reebok Rapar <br /> Cape Cod Relay scheduled to be held on May 11 .12, 2018+ Ranar Events has requested to pass <br /> through the Town of Mashpee, and to set up an exchange point at Heritage park as in previous years. <br /> Runners will arrive atapproximately ; � .m. on l ay 11 t". The last runner is projected to leave <br /> � <br /> Mashpee around 4:00 a.m. The course route in the Town of Mashpee has been slightly modified from <br /> previous years. The Mashpee police Department is fully advised of the added exchange point at the <br /> Quashnet School. <br /> Proof of insurance naming the Town of Mashpee as the Certificate Holder was secured. The <br /> application was distributed and approved by various Town Departments with comments/stipulations <br /> contained in the memorandum from Terrie Cook, Administrative.Assistant dated January 18, 2018 <br /> Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to approve the Special Events Application for the Annual <br /> Reebok Ra nar Cape Cod Relay on May 11-12,2018 as presented. <br /> Lotion seconded by Selectman Cotton. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman Sherman,yes <br /> Selectman Cahalane,yes Selectman Gottlieb,yes Opposed, none <br /> Update on Cultural Council- Chairman Dawn Thayer: <br /> Mashpee Cultural Council members Dawn Thayer and Lyn Waterman were in attendance to update <br /> the Board on the council and its activities The Mashpee Cultural Council was established in 1982. It <br /> is a state funded program benefiting the arts and humanities. Each year, state funding is received, and <br /> grants are prioritized and issued to worthwhile programs that benefit the Town of Mashpee. <br /> Although grant funding fluctuates,the Mashpee Cultural Council generally receives a state funding <br /> appropriation of$4,500 per year. In F 18, 28 applications totaling $15,000 was received. after <br /> careful consideration and with the use of available funding from the previous fiscal year a total of <br /> $5,,125 was awarded to benefit fourteen permissible progrw-ns and objectives. This included funding <br /> to the Mashpee Public Library, the Cape Cod Children's Museum,the Quashnet School,to the <br /> Mashpee Village, the Mashpee Garden Club and to recreational programs benefiting the arts offered <br /> by the Town of Mashpee. <br /> Barbara Cotton a farmer member of the Mashpee Cultural Council commented on the role of the <br /> Council which ensures that projects are funded locally, and reaching a large demographic of the <br /> population. The Board of Selectmen was invited to provide comment to the Council to solicit interest <br /> in programs which would benefit and promote the economy of the Torn of Mashpee. A goal of the <br /> Council is to support as many projects as passible. <br />
