MASHPEE FINANCE COMMITTEE <br /> MINUTES <br /> TUESDAY, March 9, 2004 <br /> Present Chaw' nan Carlton Meredith, Kathleen Lynch, Scott <br /> Wellington,Frederick Blythe, James Turner <br /> Absent Dean Arden, Gerald Umina <br /> Guests Joyce Mason, Town Administrator, Police Chief Maurice <br /> Cooper, Deputy Chief Al Todino, Superintendent of Schools <br /> and staff, Chairman and members of the School Conunittee <br /> CALL TO ORDER <br /> Charman Meredith called the meeting to order at 7:05pm in Meeting Room <br /> No. 2 at Masbpee Town Hall. <br /> ADMINISTRATION/ANNOUNCEMENTS <br /> Chairman Meredith read a flyer concerning a surprise retirement party for a <br /> town department head. <br /> Reserve fund balance is $39,700 plus $25,000 set aside for Fire Capital <br /> Account <br /> Expense fund balance is $5,712.12 <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> Revisit Police Department budget request. <br /> Mr. Blythe moved to increase the Police Vehicles Supplies by$2,000, Mr. <br /> Turner seconded. <br /> VOTE —S —0 for. Unanimous. <br /> Revisit School.Department budget request. <br /> n- School Committee Chairman and Superintendent of Schools expressed <br /> critical need to increase funding over the $100,440 added by the selectmen. <br /> A shortfall of$167,000 remains and may require cutting programs and <br /> additional staff. It was the sense of the Finance Committee that there may <br /> be funds available if all the state Chapter 70 funds materialize The Town <br /> Administrator advised there is little possibility that may happen but it can't <br /> be ruled out. Mr. Blythe moved that the School Budget hold be continued <br />
