Ms. <br /> d � er salary is on the low end of the range. <br /> WS <br /> Ms. Mason noted there are significant needs within the department and the budget does not <br /> cover all of therm. <br /> Committee did not have any further questions on budget recommendation. <br /> School&parmient <br /> Ms. Mason indicated there is a serious issue with budget accountability in the school <br /> department, and suggested that town management and the Finance Committee address this <br /> issue, Mr. Avis agreed this should be a factor in all town departments. Ms. Mason stated <br /> all.other departments are already held accountable for budgets and performance. <br /> Mr. Dottridge asked how budget accountability can best be accomplished. Ms. Mason <br /> suggested the addition'of the Finance Director position should help. <br /> 1r. Avis asked if Finance Director can oversee budgets ofboth town and school <br /> departments. M . Mason will examine how best to approach the issue. <br /> . anftBoard <br /> Ms. Mason indicated she has no problem with level funding budget, noting department can <br /> request additional finds later if necessary. <br /> Committee reached a consensus to recommend level-funding budget. <br /> Police D <br /> gpartment <br /> Chairman Umina questioned Ms. Mason on the statin of the increasing the part--bine <br /> administrative position to fall-time. Ms. Mason expressed concern over how to justify an <br /> increase in secretarial support when other departments face cuts. <br /> Chairman Umina highlighted the dine need for full-time administrative help within the <br /> department. Ms. Mason re ie ved how functions of lieutenants have altered from the <br /> vaginal intent of hiring them. <br /> Committee reviewed salary costs in department and discussed options for recommendation. <br /> Mr. Avis suggested meeting with the Chief to discuss concerns. Mr. Avis, Mr. Dottridge <br /> and Ms. Mason agreed to meet with Chief for further discussion; Ms. Mason will arrange <br /> the meeting. _ <br /> Tree Warden <br /> Committee discussed costs associated with pruning project. <br /> Committee reached a consensus to cut expense budget to $1,500. <br /> Ms. Mason will adjust her budget recommendation to reflect this decision. <br /> HemLug War <br /> -- performed <br /> work for d en <br /> Ms, Jason noted the contract for the Harbormaster includes a stipend p <br /> in this capacity. <br /> Mr. Avis observed dual robs with dual salaries are resulting in higher costs, and that <br /> assistants are in place seasonally.
