L
Mashpee Finance Committee Minutes
January 23,2007
Mashpee'Town Mall, Room 41
Meeting called to order: Chairman Chris Avis called meeting of the Finance
Committee to order at 6:34 p.m. at the Mashpee Town Hall.
Present: Chris Avis, Chairman; Chuck Jasior, vice Chairman; Iden Patrick; Bob
Hutchinson; Sandra Lindsey, and Bill Johnson.
Absent: Lynda Carroll
Others-. Joyce Mason, Town Manager; Rene Read, Assistant Town Manager;
Tem'e Cook, Selectman.
1. Approval of Minutes: Chris Avis moved to approve Minutes of the
Meeting of January 9,2007. Ken Patrick approved, Sandra Lindsey
seconded. Bob Hutchinson noted that both he, and Bill Johnson were not 1n
attendance at the last meeting, and therefore could not participate in the
approval of the Minutes. All were in favor. No discussion.
II. Correspondence:
Town of Mashpee Next Year Budget Historical Comparison,
Liaison Updates re: Hud et Issues and Review of Bud et Schedule for
U conmin .Meetings:
Chris Avis asked Joyce Mason if she had the Budget recommendations for the
Committee. Joyce indicated she did not, and had been waiting and hoping that the
School would go back, see the number that she had presented to thein, and consider
whether they could move on the number. Joyce further stated that they are delaying
that, but assured the Board that they would have the Budget by the end of next
week. Joyce suggested that the Board start with the lamer departments, such as
Police and Fire, as there is not expected to be much change.
Bill Johnson inquired as to the School Budget presentation, and asked Joyce Mason
if the School provided enough explanation, or an analysis as to costs/expenditures.
Bill stated he did not feel the Board was in a position or prepared at the present time
to tell the School what is rational reasonable, etc. Bill felt the School Committee or
School Administration needs to understand the need for the Finance Committee to
be clear and informed about what the School 'is doing. Joyce agreed, and further
stated that there is a lack of justification on the numbers. Joyce just received a
report last week, but the report is not very detailed, and they still do not see a clear
picture of what the numbers represent.
