Old business: Vice Chairman Chuck Gasior opened the meeting by discussing the"Senior <br /> Work-Off Abatement Program"which needs to be reconfirmed for the enoda it n'n October <br /> 1St,through the following year. The Board of Selectmen requested that the Finance Committee <br /> review the program and make recommendations on whether the program should be expanded <br /> from its present status. Mr. Gasior welcomed Jim Long, Director of the Council on Aging, and <br /> requested"background information,where we are now, and what the proposal is". Mr. Long <br /> explained that the program operates under c.59 of the General Lags. 1t is a senior property tax <br /> abatement program which allows seniors in con numfies that adopt the program to volunteer for <br /> the purpose of receiving tax abatement. The current legislature allows for a Seven Hundred Fifty <br /> Dollar($750.00)maximum abatement, and there is discussion to raise it to One Thousand <br /> Dollars $1, 00. 0 . Mashpee has a Six Hundred Dollar($600-00)maximum. Using the Federal <br /> Mau=' u.m wage of Six Dollars and 75/100 ($6.75)per hour,the Town has determined that a <br /> total of eighty nine hours of volunteering would reach the maximum abatement. Mr. Gasior <br /> and Mr. Long briefly discussed this program in terms of numbers of volunteers, length of this <br /> 1 <br />
