1400 <br /> Minutes of the Finance Committee <br /> March 11, 2010, 6:30 p.m.,1 Mashpee Town Hall <br /> Meeting called to order at: Chairman Sandra Lindsey called meeting of the Finance <br /> Committee to order at 6:31 p.m. at Mashpee Town n Hall <br /> Present: Roll Call: Chairman Sandra Lindsey; Vice Chairman Chuck Gasior; Chris Avis; <br /> George Schmidt; Bill Johnson <br /> Excused: Oskar Klenert;Bob Hutchinson <br /> Others: Glen Harrington; Terrie Cook; Catherine Laurent; Ann Bradshaw arr. 6:42 p.m.); <br /> Kathleen Moore;Dawn n Thayer. <br /> I. Anproval of Minutes: Vice Chairman Chuck Ga for roved to a ve the M*nates o <br /> February 25, 2010. Chris Avis seconded. Bill Johnson abstained from the vote as he <br /> was not in attendance at the February 25, 2010 meeting. No_discussion. <br /> 11L Correspondence: <br /> Jou for Transfer: Ione. <br /> Jv. old Business- Review Bud sheet. Catherine Laurent addressed Committee <br /> relative to DPW budget, specifically discussing transfer station and street lighting. Where was <br /> discussion on single stream recycling, and"Trash Local Transfer Contract. Ms. Laurent hopes <br /> to recognize hauling cost savings. In 2014, a substantial increase in tipping is anticipated. <br /> Chairman Lindsey inquired about capping. Some line items have been, and will be, going <br /> out to bid. Items are presented for bid "as a package", but may be split up in the future. Long <br /> haul transportation is being considered. Chris Avis requested clarification on transportation <br /> costs, not including tipping fees, and feels we are"strong armed" by SEN ASS. <br /> Vice Chairman G sior briefly discussed"pay as you throve, reduction in generated waste,, <br /> and expressed concern about the number of roadblocks that can be thrown up in this process. <br /> There has been a steady decline in waste, and FIs. Laurent attributes it to the economy, <br /> noting"people are making smarter purchasing decisions and producing less waste.31) George <br /> Schmidt initiated discussion on public education relative to the pay as you throve option. At <br /> this time, the Regional Transfer Station is an inter-muntctp l agreement between four Towns. <br /> Street lighti g Cemet ry lighting. Cemetery commission is in discussion to put up lighting. <br /> The lighting would be"ornamental style" Within the cemetery. <br /> Glen Harri on discussed -Lave warrant Article submitted by the Board of Health, <br /> relative to recycling. Chris Avis expressed concern about effect of this Article on local <br /> businesses, specifically restaurants. Mr. Avis is specifically concerned about awareness and <br /> education relative to this recycling. Nice Chairman Gasior stated many foods stores are <br /> already involved in recycling/composting.
