Ir
BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES
MONTHLY MEETING
TUESDAY, MAY 143 1996
7:00 P. M.
I PRESENT. ANTON BUCHENELUT
HELENE LEFOE, LIBRARY DIRECTOR .
CHARLOTTE FANEUIL
CHERYL HAWVER
MIMI MARSH
ONDREA ROBERTSON
}ICK SHAU HI ESSY
II MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING.
The minutes of the April 23, 1996 meeting were accepted as printed.
III REPORTS.-
Librarian:
EPORTS:Librarian: Helene I eEoe. reported that circulation for the month increased
856 items over the previous April's figures. It resulted in a 15% in-
crease over April. 1995. Year-to-date, circulation totals 67,9200- With
two months to go in the fiscal year, circulation is expected to- top
80,000 items for the first time.
Friends: Helene reported that she had received an informal report from
Terri Hyde. The hook sale totalled $110.
IV COMMUNICATIONS: A letter from the Barnstable Library. Commissioners to
look at the, standards and .try to determine if there were some -way .to
change the standards in order to give credit t 'some of the other ex-
penses which were equally important that contribute to our resource
sharing.
Helene reported that in order to be eligible for aid, we -have to spend
a certain percentage of our budget:,on materials, books, audiovisual, etc.
4
In our case, because of the size of the town, the percentage involved is
19%. That rakes it difficult when you watt to add other services such as
additional staffing, you also have to increase the amount of materials.
Up until this time,-`,we have not been able to deduct -any of the monies we
have spent for ODMS -since that is not considered materials. Ire .the next
fiscal year, they are subscribing -to an o --line data base produc.t, and
part of that will count toward materials expense.
A number of libraries are writing letters to the Board of Library Com-
missioners expressing their feelings that they would like this item
examined and perhaps modified to consider those kinds of expenses for
which we have to spend funds. That is basically the letter that the
Barnstable Library Committee seat.
At the Clams Meeting some.of the directors expressed than perhaps their
trustees would ,like. to review -the letter Barnstable was sending. - , - :
